The distal nephron, which is the site of the micro-regulation of water absorption and ion handling in the kidneys, is under the control of aldosterone. Impairment of the mineralocorticoid signal transduction pathway results in resistance to the action of aldosterone and of mineralocorticoids in general. Multidrug efflux pumps belonging to the resistance-nodulation cell division (RND) family have major roles in the intrinsic and elevated resistance of Gram-negative bacteria to a wide range of compounds. The reserpine-induced myalgia (RIM) rat manifests fibromyalgia-like chronic pain symptoms. The present study explored the pathophysiology underlying the pain symptoms in the RIM rat and the chronic constriction injury (CCI) rat, an animal model of neuropathic pain as a reference. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: After myorelaxants, myalgia and residual curarization may complicate recovery. Local anaesthesia and minimally invasive airway management make myorelaxants disputable in many outpatient procedures; nevertheless, neuromuscular blockade may be necessary to facilitate intubation or maintain muscle relaxation. We investigated the interaction of class-I antiarrhythmic drugs as they affect intraventricular conduction of human hearts in vivo. QRS duration in signal-averaged electrocardiograms and standard electrocardiograms were measured as an index of intraventricular conduction time in 17 patients with implanted pacemakers at various pacing rates (100-180 ppm, VVI mode).
