The presence of epicanthal folds and lack of supratarsal folds are unique features in most Asian eyelids. Although many surgical procedures are available to eliminate epicanthal folds, scarring on the medial canthus is still an obstacle for surgeons to overcome. Hypokalemic periodic paralysis is an uncommon complication of thyrotoxicosis, and very rare as a presenting symptom. It is most frequent in east Asian and Japanese males, but extremely rare in others. Only 1 case has previously been reported from Israel. We describe clinical manifestations and historical data on ten patients with Kabuki make-up syndrome. All patients are of European ancestry … and some other relatives of the probands in three generations. Some phenotypic differences between Asian and non-Asian patients were noted. The possible cause of the syndrome is discussed. The present observations and a literature review suggest autosomal dominant inheritance with different expressivity of the Kabuki make-up syndrome.

Over 25 years anti-opium laws were enacted by three Asian governments in countries where opium use was traditional. Within months, heroin use suddenly appeared; and within a decade, heroin addiction surpassed opium addiction. Treatment of coeliac disease requires a strict gluten-free (GF) diet, however, a high proportion of patients do not adhere to a GF diet. The study explores the practical challenges of a GF diet and dietary adherence in Caucasian and South Asian adults with coeliac disease.
