The Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic and Time to Diagnosis for Childhood Pulmonary Diseases: Outcomes of a Tertiary Care Center.

Coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic caused many changes in the social behaviors of individuals and the provision of health systems. Many studies revealed reductions in the number of diagnoses and delays in diagnosis time during the pandemic. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the pandemic on the time to diagnosis of major diseases of pediatric pulmonology. Newly diagnosed patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), childhood interstitial lung disease (chILD), tuberculosis (TB), and primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) were grouped into pandemic (group 1) and 2 consecutive pre-pandemic periods divide

Womb to rent: the ethical and legal implications of surrogacy in Ireland.

BACKGROUND: Surrogacy is a form of assisted human reproduction whereby a surrogate woman carries a pregnancy for a commissioning couple or individual. There are two types of surrogacy, traditional and gestational. Worldwide we have seen a rapid increase in the use of surrogacy. Despite this, there is a lack of consensus internationally on the laws governing surrogacy. In Ireland, surrogacy remains largely unregulated. Currently, there is no specific legislation for surrogacy. This review aims to discuss its current regulatory status and associated ethical issues. AIMS: On surrogacy from an Ir

Regional Water Availability and WASH Indicators as Predictors of Malnutrition in Under-5 Children: Analysis of the National Family Health Survey, India (2015-16).

BACKGROUND: Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices determine child nutrition in resource-constrained countries and are influenced by regional water availability. We assessed any relationship between malnutrition and WASH practices among under-5 children in India's areas as per water availability. METHODS: We did a secondary data analysis of the National Family Health Survey-IV. Stunting, wasting and being underweight were the significant outcomes. Regional water availability, households' source of water, sanitation and disposal of the child stool were the major independent variables.

Current situation of children with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries.

Global child mortality has more than halved for the last three decades. Without a decrease in morbidity corresponding to that in mortality, this increased survival is likely to increase the number of children with disabilities, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). While population-based data on children with disabilities have been scarce in LMICs, it is estimated that among 52.9 million children with disabilities under 5 years worldwide, 95% live in LMICs. Sequelae of postnatal disease continue to be the major cause of child disability in LMICs; however, disability is increa

ERP study on the associations of peripheral oxytocin and prolactin with inhibitory processes involving emotional distraction.

BACKGROUND: Child maltreatment is a major health and social welfare problem, with serious and longstanding consequences. Impulse control ability plays an important role in reducing the risk of child maltreatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of oxytocin (OXT) and prolactin (PRL) with behavior inhibition using children's facial expressions (angry or neutral) as emotional distractions. This may clarify a part of the neuroendocrinological mechanism that modulates impulse control ability in the context of child caregiving. METHODS: Participants were 16 females who had
