IMPORTANCE: Initial treatment of nasal fractures can result in long-standing cosmetic or functional defects, but the risk factors for subsequent septorhinoplasty have not been explored.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the risk factors for septorhinoplasty after the initial treatment of isolated nasal fracture.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This retrospective population-based analysis of US patients diagnosed with nasal fracture between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2015, used insurance claims data from the Commercial and Medicare Supplemental categories of the Truven Health MarketScan database

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic effect of long PHILOS locking compression plate on the proximal humerus and humeral shaft fractures.
METHODS: From March 2005 to December 2007, 35 cases with the proximal humerus and humeral shaft fractures were treated with long PHILOS locking compression plate, including 16 males and 19 females aged 29-68 years old (average 54.5 years old). There were 34 cases of fresh and close fracture, and the time from injury to operation was 3-9 days. One case had delayed union of fracture 5 months after receiving T-plates and internal fixation with steel plate

Fracture repair in renal osteodystrophy remains challenging because impaired bone quality compromises fixation stability, while current systemic therapies regulating bone metabolism do not sufficiently address the disease-specific mechanisms underlying defective repair. An integrated strategy combining early fracture stabilization with mechanism-guided local treatment is therefore needed. Here, integrated single-cell RNA sequencing and multi-omics analyses identify inflammatory macrophages as a key pathogenic population, characterized by glycolytic reprogramming driven by hypoxia-inducible fac

Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are one of the adjuvant endocrine therapies of choice, for estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women and premenopausal women with ovarian suppression. However, treatment with AIs leads to accelerated bone loss, and an increased fracture risk. Denosumab or bisphosphonates are recommended to prevent bone loss and reduce fracture risk during AIs treatment. However, specific attention must be paid to the "rebound phenomenon" after denosumab discontinuation. This review focuses on the therapeutic benefits of denosumab for its antiresorptive and anti

INTRODUCTION: Posterior hip dislocation with ipsilateral shaft of femur fracture is a very rare case encountered. This case presents a rare combination of posterior hip dislocation with ipsilateral femoral shaft fracture with head of femur fracture of a sixteen year old male patient following a road traffic accident (RTA). It emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary trauma protocol, early imaging, and timely surgical intervention in complex orthopedic injuries.
CASE PRESENTATION: Patient was presented in the emergency department with complaints of severe pain and deformity in the left

INTRODUCTION: Proximal humeral fracture-dislocations (PHF-D) are complex injuries, often requiring urgent intervention. However, management protocols remain unclear when anatomical reduction of the glenohumeral joint is achieved, but significant displacement of the greater tuberosity persists. The lack of consensus on whether to reclassify such injuries after reduction creates uncertainty in rehabilitation strategies.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present the case of a 53-year-old female who suffered an anterior shoulder dislocation with a displaced greater tuberosity fracture after falling due to

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative delirium (POD) is the most common acute fluctuating mental state change after hip fractures in older adults. Postoperative pain is a Grade A risk factor for POD and is closely related to the prognosis of patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. The fascia iliac block has a definite analgesic effect and few side effects, and several studies have reported that it reduces the occurrence of POD in patients undergoing general anaesthesia for hip fracture surgery. Liposomal bupivacaine is a local anaesthetic with a long half-life that significantly reduces the use of opi

INTRODUCTION: Subtalar dislocation is defined by a simultaneous total separation of the talocalcaneal and talonavicular joints. Lateral variety is the rarest. It is the result of a high energy trauma. It occurs following forced eversion, with the foot locked in a rut with pressure on the lateral aspect of the leg. Articular fractures of the calcaneus occur as a result of axial impact on the greater tuberosity. We report the case of a lateral subtalar dislocation associated with a calcaneal fracture.

Osteoporosis can currently be diagnosed by applying the WHO classification to bone mineral density (BMD) assessed by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). However, skeletal factors other than BMD contribute to bone strength and fracture risk. Lumbar spine TBS, a grey-level texture measure which is derived from DXA images has been extensively studied, enhances fracture prediction independent of BMD and can be used to adjust fracture probability from FRAX® to improve risk stratification. The purpose of this International Society for Clinical Densitometry task force was to review the existing e

Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is a surgical emergency that requires timely recognition and early management for a good outcome. We report a case of a 71- year-old male seen at the Emergency Department of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia, on anticoagulant therapy for valvular atrial fibrillation, who had sustained a closed fracture of the left distal end radius following a fall. Examination of the left upper limb showed deformity and tenderness over the left wrist, associated with swelling and a tense anterior compartment with blisters formation and rapid expansion of hematoma at th

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Skull trauma in cats, which includes fractures of the mandible and maxilla, as well as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) conditions, is frequently encountered in general practice.
CLINICAL APPROACH: Head trauma requires immediate attention and the initial approach should be focused on stabilisation of the patient and evaluation of the major body systems, including respiratory and cardiovascular assessment, and neurological and ophthalmic examination. The head, oral occlusion and the patient's ability to open and close the mouth should be carefully evaluated. Once the cat is s

Bone stress injuries occur when forces applied to a bone for an extended period exceed the ability of the bone to adequately remodel. These injuries, which range from stress reactions to nondisplaced and even displaced fractures, most often affect people who experience high levels of repetitive stress and loading in the lower extremity or changes in physical activity level. For example, stress fractures are common in endurance athletes, in athletes engaged in preseason and early-season conditioning, and in military recruits. In the military, these injuries are most often encountered during bas

BACKGROUND: Delirium is a common complication of hip fracture and is associated with negative outcomes. Previous studies document risk factors for post-operative delirium but have frequently excluded patients with pre-operative delirium.
OBJECTIVE: This study endeavours to document prevalence and risk factors for pre-operative delirium in hip fracture patients and compares risk factor profiles and outcomes between pre- and post-operative delirium.
METHODS: 283 hip fracture patients were assessed pre-operatively with the Delirium Elderly At Risk (DEAR) instrument, Mini-Mental State Examinatio

PURPOSE: To identify factors that affect functional outcome one year after distal radial fracture treatment.
METHODS: 521 women and 121 men aged 16 to 92 (mean, 59) years with distal radial fractures underwent external fixation (n=123), open reduction and internal fixation (n=63), a combination of both (n=10), distal radial osteotomy for symptomatic malunion (n=90), or casting with (n=194) or without (n=162) prior closed manipulation under regional anaesthesia. The indication for surgery (rather than casting) was metaphyseal instability. Radiographic evaluation (dorsal angulation, radial shor

PURPOSE: Diabetes has long been known to have an impact on bone repair. More recently, however, most diabetic patients receive medications to normalise this hyperglycaemic environment. To date, no studies have investigated the effects of diabetic medications on fracture healing in humans.
METHOD: Patients were identified from two tertiary trauma centres. Inclusion criteria were adult patients having sustained a closed diaphyseal femoral or tibial fracture, treated surgically. Exclusion criteria were open, pathological or peri-prosthetic fractures, and patients having sustained polytrauma. Mat

UNLABELLED: As distal end of the radius is anatomically localised close to the carpal tunnel, fractures of this part of the bone is fairly commonly associated with symptoms typical for median nerve compression. The objective of the study was to assess frequency of the occurrence of these symptoms in patients after operative treatment of the fractures of the distal radius, and, additionally to evaluate the validity and specificity of the Levine questionnaire in the detection of symptoms of median nerve compression.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In 101 patients, at a mean of 9 weeks after surgery for f

PURPOSE: Unstable dorsal fracture-dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint are complex injuries that are difficult to treat and usually require operative fixation. There are a number of surgical techniques for treating these injuries but none has emerged as superior. The purposes of this study were to describe a simple percutaneous technique to treat unstable dorsal fracture-dislocations of the PIP joint and to report short-term postoperative results.
METHODS: We treated 6 patients with unstable dorsal fracture-dislocations of the PIP joint with the technique of closed reducti

We reported a 23-year-old man who was involved in a high-speed motorcycle accident. He sustained a closed fracture at the right distal femur. The primary fracture happened on February 2008. He underwent open reduction and internal fixation with cloverleaf plate. And one hundred days after the surgery, the proximal screws were pulled-out, but the bone union was not achieved. Treatment consisted of exchanging the cloverleaf plate with a locking compression plate and using an auto-iliac bone graft to fill the nonunion gap. In July 2009, the patient had a sharp pain in the right lower limb. The X-
