Histopathologic changes in the regenerative epithelia of 549 foci of gastric ulcer were studied. One hundred thirty cases of primary malignant lymphoma of the large intestine in Japan were studied with regard to operative results. The averaged age was 52.6 years and most of the patients were men. Sites of the tumor were the cecum (71.5 per cent), rectum (16.9 per cent) and the ascending colon (6.2 per cent). Surgery was performed for 129 (99.2 per cent) of the 130, of which 71 (55 per cent) were curatively resected. A variety of intestinal complications, including constipation, abdominal pain, palpable cecal masses, intestinal obstruction, intussusception, and volvulus, have been observed beyond the neonatal period in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Aseptic arthritis can occur following intestinal infections due to Shigella, Salmonella, Campylobacter jejuni and Clostridium difficile. These rheumatisms are rare, only occurring in about 1 p. cent of cases, generally in patients with the HLA-B27 antigen. This study was designed to determine whether gastrin is released by the antrum in response to an intestinal meal in dogs. Two groups of anesthetized dogs were prepared with innervated antral pouches. The prognosis of carcinoid tumors of the Gastro-Intestinal Tract (GIT) is determined by the site and size of the tumors. Carcinoid of the vermiform appendix and the rectum cause early symptoms making early diagnosis and treatment relatively easy. The 5-year-survival rate is 99% and 83% respectively. A review of 100 consecutive patients admitted with simple, mechanical small-bowel obstruction secondary to adhesions and treated for at least 24 hours with nonoperative intestinal intubation showed that of 76 patients admitted with partial small-bowel obstruction, 49 (65%) were successfully treated without operation. A review is presented of the cases treated in this department between 1944 and 1979. Radical surgery was carried out in 388 patients out of 746, whereby the majority of patients were in the older age brackets. Paralytic ileus was present in about 25% of cases and three-stage procedure was, thus, required in the management of these patients. The mortality decreased from 16.6% to 2.1%. The 5-year survival rate was on the lower limits of the range quoted in the literature. Aetiology diagnosis and preoperative management is discussed.
