A tertiary level hospital-based case control study on frequency of changing presbyopic glasses among primary open angle glaucoma cases was carried out jointly by the departments of community medicine and ophthalmology from 1st July to 31st December, 2008. Each of the case and control groups included 31 persons. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether early surgical excision of complicated periorbital hemangiomas (CPHs) reversed refractive errors and prevented further visual complications; CPHs can cause visual complications including astigmatism, strabismus, and occlusion of the visual axis with resultant amblyopia.

We compared uveitis patients who attended a general eye clinic (n = 183) with those who attended the ophthalmology department of a university hospital (n = 550) to examine factors that affect the clinical statistics of uveitis outpatients. CASE REPORT: A 40-year-old man was admitted to the ophthalmology outpatient clinic at State Hospital. He complained of a foreign-body sensation. The open globe injuries in children are frequent and serious accidents. The purpose of this study is to investigate the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics and the visual outcomes of this accident. Endogenous endophthalmitis due to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is an unusual disease with serious sequelae. To investigate risk factors for breast cancer in Taiwan, a low-incidence area, a case-control study was conducted. This comprised 244 subjects with diagnosed and pathologically confirmed breast cancer (age range 20-80 years) and 450 female ophthalmology outpatients as controls. Univariate and multiple logistic regression analysis suggests that breast cancer in Taiwan is aetiologically similar to breast cancer in high to moderate-incidence areas. Among 385 specimens of presumed microbial keratitis cultured at Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology from April 1988 to December 1990, 21(6%) were associated with extended-wear contact lenses. The authors reviewed the ocular findings in 49 patients with facial microsomias not considered part of a known syndrome. Five patients had bifacial microsomia, and 44 patients had hemifacial microsomia.
