Epigenetic Connections in Malocclusion.

Malocclusion arises from complex interactions among genetic, environmental, and developmental factors. While genetic contributions are well established, epigenetic mechanisms, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, non-coding RNAs, and RNA chemical modifications, have emerged as plausible regulators of craniofacial growth and dentoalveolar remodeling. This structured narrative review critically evaluates current evidence on the role of epigenetic regulation in the development of malocclusion and in orthodontic tooth movement. Most available data derive from in vitro studies, animal

Mandibular third molar protraction using a segmented arch and mini-implant anchorage: A case report.

RATIONALE: The absence of the mandibular second molar (M2) significantly compromises oral function and quality of life. Conventional prosthetic rehabilitation or autotransplantation presents notable limitations. Under the premise of efficiency and precision, orthodontic mesialization of the third molar (M3) using a localized appliance offers a promising, noninvasive alternative for tooth replacement. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 20-year-old male patient with severe caries in the right mandibular M2 was referred by the Department of Endodontics and admitted to the Orthodontics Department at the Hospita…

Oral Rehabilitation With Clear Aligners and Implant-Supported Prosthetic Restorations After Mandibular Reconstruction Due to Osteosarcoma.

This case report presents the complex orthodontic and prosthetic rehabilitation process of a 30-year-old man who presented to our clinic seeking to restore chewing function and aesthetics following radical surgical resections for mandibular osteosarcoma. His oncological history included a tumor infiltrating the right mandibular ramus and corpus. Archived radiographic data indicated that this lesion was locally invasive and exhibited an aggressive bone destruction pattern, so the patient initially underwent a segmental mandibulectomy. However, due to positive surgical margins, subsequent extens

Diagnosis and surgical management of impacted mandibular canines associated with a dentigerous cyst and odontoma: A case report.

In dental practice, impacted canines are common clinical conditions that compromise tooth mobility, thereby severely affecting functionality and esthetics. They also represent a significant challenge, particularly when associated with odontogenic pathologies such as dentigerous cysts and odontomas. These entities, despite benign, can cause complications, including tooth displacement, root resorption, and alterations in normal eruption, compromising both esthetics and function. We present the case of a 15-year-old female patient with no relevant medical history who attended for orthodontic trea

Comparative evaluation and co-relation in variation of curve of Spee and curve of Wilson in Class II div. 1, Class II div. 2, and Class III as against Class I malocclusion in central India population- an in vitro study.

INTRODUCTION: Getting acceptable cosmetic results in the soft tissues of the face serves as the foundation for orthodontic treatment planning. Also, in order to achieve healthy static and dynamic occlusal interactions, the teeth must be positioned within the basal bone at the correct position, angle, and inclination. To avoid periodontal issues, provide stability, and achieve a functional occlusion, it is essential to ascertain the individual's dental arch form before starting of treatment and thus to utilise the mechanics that follow throughout the treatment. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate and comp

Mechanical loading-induced alveolar bone remodeling is suppressed in the diabetic state via the impairment of the specificity protein 1/vascular endothelial growth factor (SP1/VEGF) axis.

AIMS/INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic treatment involves alveolar bone remodeling in response to mechanical loading, resulting in tooth movement through traction-side bone formation and compression-side bone resorption. However, there are conflicting reports regarding alveolar bone resorption during the orthodontic treatment of patients with diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Diabetes was induced in 8-week-old C56BL/6J mice using streptozotocin (STZ). Four weeks after the injection of STZ, a mechanical load was applied between the first and second molars on the right side of the upper jaw using the Wa

Effect of the Proximity of Roots to the Cortical Plate and Inclination of Incisors on External Apical Root Resorption.

BACKGROUND: External apical root resorption (EARR) is an unfavorable side effect of orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment of patients with increased crowding could lead to the proclination of incisors and proximity of roots to the cortical plates. AIMS: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the proximity of the labial and lingual cortical plates and the inclination of incisors on EARR. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: Twenty-six patients (age: 13.39 years) with nonextraction fixed orthodontic treatment were evaluated at pretreatment and posttreatment (52 cone-beam computed tomograp
