Emotional wellbeing and caregiving strain in close others following acquired brain injury transitional rehabilitation: A prospective longitudinal study.

Close others (COs) of individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI) report negative psychological wellbeing associated with caregiving. The transition period from hospital discharge to home is a known vulnerable time. An ABI transitional rehabilitation service (ABI TRS) was piloted, utilizing a family-focused care model and aiming to support COs' needs. This study assessed the impact of ABI TRS on CO psychological well-being and caregiver strain compared to a "treatment as usual" (TAU) approach. Data from 70 individuals with ABI and 77 COs involved in ABI TRS were analysed alongside data from 8

Spectral EEG-guided adaptive neuromodulation for social anxiety disorder, performance-only subtype: a case report.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is often complicated by anticipatory anxiety, hyperarousal, and variability in response to first-line treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and pharmacotherapy. These limitations highlight the need for adjunctive modalities capable of enhancing the magnitude and durability of treatment response. This case report explores outcomes following spectral EEG-guided personalized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (PrTMS) in a patient with SAD, performance-only subtype. Weekly psychometric assessments revealed reductions in social anxiety intensi

The effect of structured psychoeducation for caregivers of ALS patients on perceived stress, psychological resilience and self-compassion.

Patients diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) become dependent on caregivers to meet their daily needs and perform personal care activities. For this reason, ALS is a disease that can challenge both the patient and the caregiver physically, mentally and socially. Supporting the caregiver indirectly affects the patient's quality of care and mental well-being. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of a structured psychoeducation program on coping with stress, psychological resilience and self-compassion in caregivers of ALS patients. This quasi-experimental study with

Studied factors and metrics of patient portal use among people with HIV: a rapid scoping review.

For people living with HIV (PLHIV), patient portals could facilitate access to personal health records while promoting self-management and retention in care. Given the apparent heterogeneity in the studied factors influencing portal use among PLHIV and the metrics used in research, we conducted a rapid scoping review to inventory them. Two databases were searched (Medline and Embase on the Ovid platform) from conception until 15 September 2023. Two reviewers screened all records and full texts. Studies published in English, employing quantitative methods, including a portal usage metric, and i

Therapist-Guided Versus Self-Guided Forest Immersion: Comparative Efficacy on Short-Term Mental Health and Economic Value.

Forest therapy, guided by clinical professionals (psychologists or psychotherapists), is increasingly recognized as a preventive and complementary health practice with evidence-based therapeutic potential; however, the specific contribution of therapist guidance compared to self-guided immersion remains unclear. This retrospective study evaluated the short-term mental health outcomes of therapist-guided (TG) compared to self-guided (SG) forest immersion, based on the validated State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Profile of Mood States questionnaires. Data were collected from 282 adults participa

The effect of planned education given to mothers of children with hydrocephalus on care burden and anxiety: a randomised controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Mothers of children with hydrocephalus often face increased caregiver burden and anxiety due to shunt-related complications, These challenges may be exacerbated without adequate training in their child's chronic disease care. AIM: This study evaluated the impact of an educational programme for mothers of children with hydrocephalus on caregiving burden and anxiety. METHODS: A two-group, single-centre, randomised controlled trial was conducted with mothers of children aged 0-1. The intervention group received structured education beginning preoperatively, based on a comprehensive

Visual Accessibility through Open Shelving: Impacts on Cognitive Load, Motivation, Physical Activity, and User Perception in Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) often experience difficulty locating items in kitchen cabinets, limiting their experiences in the kitchen and with meal preparation. This study examined how open shelving kitchen cabinets, relative to closed cabinets, affects cognitive load, motivation, physical activity, and user perception among older adults with MCI. Eleven older adults completed meal preparation tasks in both conditions while data on eye-tracking, wrist accelerometry, step count, task duration, and Intrinsic Motivation Inventory were collected. Therapeutic alliance with psychotherapist versus dietician: a pilot study of eating disorder treatment in a multidisciplinary team during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Little is known about the therapeutic alliance (TA) formed with different professionals in multidisciplinary eating disorder (ED) treatment, particularly in the context of online treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic. We aimed to conduct a pilot study during the COVID-19 pandemic examining characteristics of patients' TA with their dieticians and psychotherapists, associations between patients' and therapists' views of the TA, and relationships between psychological characteristics and TAs. Sixty-three patients with EDs and their treating psychotherapists and dieticians were surveyed during t

Mindfulness is a state of being fully attentive to the current moment and is an experiential way of living in daily life. As a personal trait, mindfulness has been proven to enhance various negative emotions and behaviors. However, in the field of driving, there is still a lack of research on the mechanisms of mindfulness on anger expression behavior, specifically aggressive driving. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to reveal the impact of mindfulness on drivers' aggressive driving behaviors and the mediating effect of driving anger and anger rumination. A total of 350 (208 males and 14

Can't stop, won't stop - understanding anxiety's role in cyberchondria among pregnant women.

Online health research is common during pregnancy, especially if women are facing complications. Given the unpleasant emotions women experience after research, it is surprising that cyberchondria, excessive and repeated online health research caused by anxiety that intensifies such anxiety, has not been studied in pregnant women. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the predictors of cyberchondria among women with and without pregnancy complications, accounting for health anxiety (a worry regarding personal health) and pregnancy-specific anxiety (concerns related to pregnancy and ch

Evolution of dizziness-related disability in children following concussion: a group-based trajectory analysis.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify Dizziness-Related Disability (DRD) recovery trajectories in pediatric concussion and assess clinical predictors of disability groups. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, 81 children (8-17 years) diagnosed with an acute concussion took part in 3 evaluation sessions (baseline, 3-month, and 6-month). All sessions included the primary disability outcome, the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) to create the DRD recovery trajectories using group-based multi-trajectory modeling analysis. Each independent variable included general patients'

Inflammatory markers of symptomatic remission at 6 months in patients with first-episode schizophrenia.

Neuroinflammation contributes to the pathophysiology of various mental illnesses including schizophrenia. We investigated peripheral inflammatory cytokines as a biomarker for predicting symptomatic remission in patients with first-episode schizophrenia. The study included 224 patients aged 15-60 years who fulfilled the criteria for schizophrenia spectrum disorder with a treatment duration ≤6 months. Serum levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) -α, interferon-γ, interleukin (IL)-1α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and IL-12 were measured. Psychotic symptoms, depressive symptoms, and general functionin
