We report three new isolated cases of orocraniodigital syndrome (Juberg-Hayward syndrome). The main clinical features of this unusual birth defect (six patients from three families described so far) are cleft lip/palate, hypertelorism, bowed and upward slanting eyebrows, thumb hypo/aplasia or proximal/distal thumb displacement, luxation of the radial head, elbow restriction, minor vertebral and rib anomalies, and horseshoe kidneys. New features observed in our patients are severe mental impairment (not correlated with the severity of the malformations), anterior anal displacement, and ptosis.

Microtia patients encountered over 9 years from 1978 to 1986 were listed. The total number of patients for the period was 155, 113 males and 42 females. The microtia occurred on the right side in 93 cases, on the left in 50 cases and bilaterally in 12 cases. Surgery was performed in 115 cases during the period. Congenital tracheal stenosis is a rare disorder that carries a significant morbidity and mortality. It is an even greater challenge when present in combination with other life-threatening congenital anomalies. We present an infant with multiple congenital anomalies, including trisomy 21, who was diagnosed with congenital tracheal stenosis at 3 months of age. At age 5 months, the infant underwent tracheoplasty with costal cartilage graft and pulmonary artery banding. Bronchoscopy 3 weeks later revealed a patent airway. However, the patient died 2 months postoperatively of cardiac complications.

A report is presented of 93 patients referred for specialist management of thoracic injuries in the 5-year period 1973-1978. Penetrating trauma to the thorax had been sustained by 18 patients and blunt trauma by 75. Falls and traffic accidents were the most common causes (32 and 35 cases). In an attempt to find prognostic factors for mild scoliosis, the first clinical and radiologic data of 159 subjects with idiopathic scoliosis less than 30 degrees were correlated with the annual speed of progression estimated graphically by further examinations. Three cases have been presented that demonstrate some ways in which adjacent autogenous bone can be used for grafting in orthognathic surgery. The limitations on the use of such bone are, of course, the amount and type of bone available and the imagination of the surgeon. Gorlin's syndrome is a condition inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion. It involves many organs, but principally affects the skin, skeleton, and endocrine and nervous systems. The most common features are multiple nervi and basal cell carcinomas of the skin, benign jaw cysts, dyskeratotic pits in the palms and soles, rib and vertebral abnormalities, brachymetacarpalism, and calcification of the falx cerebri. In 14 patients, 4 of whom belonged to one family, the age at the time of diagnosis ranged from 11 to 63 years. Ten patients are alive, but five are severely disfigured by carcinomas.
