In the current study, we have assessed the distribution of black fly vectors and the occurrence of onchocerciasis among residents of the Firestone Rubber Plantation (FRP) in Liberia. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common of all cancers. Ultraviolet radiation is the major etiologic agent in the pathogenesis of BCC, but there is not a straightforward relationship between cumulative exposure and risk. A high proportion of lesions arise on the trunk, which is generally much less exposed to the sun than the head, the major site affected. We tested the hypothesis that the phenotypic determinants and patterns of sun exposure that give rise to BCC on the head and trunk vary in a way that explains the anomalous site distribution.

In this population-based study, 193 trainee hairdressers and 184 practising hairdressers each completed a questionnaire and had their hands examined. BACKGROUND: Hemodialysis patients are at high risk for cognitive impairment due to their older age and high prevalence of stroke and cardiovascular risk factors.
METHODS: Using a cross-sectional design, the authors measured cognitive function in 374 hemodialysis patients aged 55 years and older and an age-matched comparison group in Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. Greenland is the most extreme of human habitats in regard to annual changes in natural light. From being very low, the rate of suicides in Greenland has increased during the past few decades to be among the highest in the world. Several studies have shown seasonality in suicides with spring or summer peaks, but this has not been previously shown in Greenland. Official data from 1968 to 1995 from West Greenland were pooled. METHODS: Twelve patients with facial neuralgias diagnosed and treated in dental clinic of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital were studies. Using strict for diagnosis, patients were categorized into: trigeminal, glosspharyngeal and post herpetic neuralgias.
RESULTS: Eight patients had trigeminal neuralgia; three patients had post -herpetic neuralgia and one patient had glossopharyeal neuralgia.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate non-atherosclerotic cardiac deaths in the UK population aged over 15 years including elderly patients and to highlight the concept of the structurally normal heart in sudden death.
METHODS: Pathological data were collected prospectively for sudden adult deaths referred by UK coroners.
