A rare case of interventricular hydatid cyst in a 17-year-old male: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Echinococcus infection affects the liver and lungs. However, in unusual cases it may take location in the heart. Furthermore, the settling of the cysts in the interventricular septum are especially rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 17-years old male presented with dyspnea and productive cough. Ultrasound showed an incidental finding of a cyst in the distal part of the interventricular septum and the apex of left ventricle. He was treated with a course of antibiotics with albendazole 800 mg then was referred to the cardiac surgery department. The cyst …

Expansion of Opportunistic Enteric Fungal Pathogens and Occurrence of Gut Inflammation in Human Liver Echinococcosis.

Increasing evidence shows that the gut fungal mycobiota is implicated in human disease. However, its relationship with chronic helminth infections, which cause immunosuppression and affect over 1 billion people worldwide, remains unexplored. In this study, we investigated the gut mycobiome and its associations with gut homeostasis in a severe helminth disease worldwide: liver echinococcosis. Fecal samples from 63 patients and 42 healthy controls were collected to characterize the fungal signatures using ITS1 sequencing, QIIME pipeline, and machine learning analysis. The levels of fecal calprot…

Pancreatic echinococcosis in a 5-year-old girl.

Pancreatic echinococcosis accounts for 0.2-0.6% of cases, with the pediatric population being at a higher risk. Most commonly, pancreatic lesions occur in the head of the pancreas (50-58%); and in the body and tail in 24-34% and 19% of cases, respectively. Given the potential complications, surgery is usually performed. Albendazole is recommended before and after the surgery due to the risks for rupture and dissemination of protoscolices. Here we describe the case of a 5-year-old girl with progressive abdominalpain and cystic lesion in the pancreas compatible with echinococcosis in the ultraso…

Isolated Primary Hydatid Disease Of The Breast.

Our study is relevant because our report adds further light on diagnosing and treating the isolated primary hydatid cyst disease of the breast. The purpose of this case report is to educate physicians and health care workers to keep this condition in the differential diagnosis of the breast lump even though the breast is a rare site of primary hydatid disease even in the endemic areas. Awareness of this entity can help in arriving at a pre-operative diagnosis, even without cytological examination, which is important in the management of the cyst. This is the first of its kind case being report

The single-cell landscape of cystic echinococcosis in different stages provided insights into endothelial and immune cell heterogeneity.

INTRODUCTION: Hydatid cysts and angiogenesis are the key characteristics of cystic echinococcosis, with immune cells and endothelial cells mediating essential roles in disease progression. Recent single-cell analysis studies demonstrated immune cell infiltration after Echinococcus granulosus infection, highlighting the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of targeting certain cell types in the lesion microenvironment. However, more detailed immune mechanisms during different periods of E. granulosus infection were not elucidated. METHODS: Herein, we characterized immune and endothelial cells …
