Two patients with acute Kala Azar were studied with DF32P (diisopropylfluorophosphate) and three patients with 51Cr (chromate) in an attempt to delineate the mechanism producing neutropenia in this disease. The granulocyte life span was found to be reduced in all the patients with exception of one who was studied during Glucantim treatment. The number of Fc and C3 receptors on normal B lymphocytes, isolated from blood, was assessed semiquantitatively by a new method in which the marker cells (pretreated sheep erythrocytes) for Fc and C3 receptors are labelled by 99Tc and 51Cr respectively. A test for platelet antibodies based on the inhibition of migration of platelets from a capillary tube is described. The technique is simple and is capable of detecting antibodies directed against HL-A antigens and the platelet-specific antigen, Pl-A1. Inhibitory activity was detected in sera from two of seven patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The platelet migration inhibition test was as sensitive as platelet lysis and more sensitive than complement fixation, aggregometry, and platelet factor-3 release for detection of the antibodies studied.

Twenty-four patients with dermatitis herpetiformis were investigated for splenic atrophy by splenic scan and clearance of (51)Cr-labelled heat-damaged red blood cells. Eight of them had definite splenic atrophy. The average splenic cross-sectional area of the remaining 16 with normal clearance times was substantially smaller than normal, suggesting some degree of splenic atrophy. No relationship of splenic hypofunction to intestinal biopsy findings, folate status, reticulin antibody, or treatment with a gluten-free diet or dapsone was evident.

Implant-retained custom-milled framework enhances the stability of palatal obturator prostheses. Therefore, to evaluate the mechanical response of implant-retained obturator prostheses with bar-clip attachment and milled bars, in three different materials under two load incidences were simulated. A maxilla model which Type IIb maxillary defect received five external hexagon implants (4.1 x 10 mm). An implant-supported palatal obturator prosthesis was simulated in three different materials: polyetheretherketone (PEEK), titanium (Ti:90%, Al:6%, V:4%) and Co-Cr (Co:60.6%, Cr:31.5%, Mo:6%) alloys.
