METHODS: A randomized, single-masked comparison in a cohort of children from 3 to 13 years. Assessment of patient pain was recorded on a visual analog scale. Cycloplegia was assessed by an ophthalmologist masked to the assignment. A questionnaire was used to assess patient acceptance. 126 patients participated. PURPOSE: No consensus currently exists on the optimal method for intraocular (IOL) implantation without capsular support. We evaluated the outcome and angiographic findings of eyes that underwent the implantation of scleral fixated IOLs.

A method is reported in which the isolated bovine eye is perfused through a long posterior ciliary artery with buffered physiological saline, to provide simultaneous monitoring of drug effects on intraocular pressure (IOP), vascular resistance and the condition of the blood-aqueous barrier. A water soluble growth inhibitor was isolated from the mammalian ocular iris-ciliary complex. The molecular weight of this protein is 10 kD or lower as determined by ultrafiltration fractionation. The ocular hypotensive effects of medetomidine, a relatively selective alpha 2-agonist, and its analogs were tested in rabbits and cats and their inhibition of adenylate cyclase in the isolated bovine ciliary process was also studied.
