A series of 1 139 patients with invasive carcinoma of the cervix uteri who received a complete course of treatment by means of external irradiation followed by intracavitary curietherapy was evaluated in order to assess the results of treatment and, in particular, the radiation complications induced. Live recordings from human myenteric neurons proved to be challenging due to technical difficulties. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: There is a strong association between primary sclerosing cholangitis [PSC] and ulcerative colitis [UC], but the immunological link between the two diseases is obscure. We compared serum cytokine profiles of patients with PSC-UC and UC, and investigated a number of selected cytokines in colonic biopsy samples. We also assessed the presence and activation of T cells in peripheral blood and colonic mucosa.
METHODS: Serum samples from 22 patients with PSC-UC, 28 patients with UC, and 19 controls were analysed by a proximity extension assay including 92 inflammatory cytokines.

INTRODUCTION: Acute colonic obstruction is a frequent emergency condition in a general surgical setting. The use of an endoscopic self-expanding stent can relieve obstruction and eventually prepare the patient for elective laparoscopic or open surgery.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From September 2001 to March 2006 we treated 25 patients with acute left or transverse colonic obstruction. In 23 patients stents were positioned planning an elective procedure to be performed. In two patients with multiple liver metastases and malignant ascites only a palliation was intended (2 of 25 patients).

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to determine the mechanical response of colonic specimens retrieved from the entire human colon and placed under dynamic solicitation until the tissue ruptured.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Specimens were taken from 20 refrigerated cadavers from different locations of the colonic frame (ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid colon) in two different directions (longitudinal and circumferential), with or without muscle strips (taenia coli). PURPOSE: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to compare the recurrence and mortality rates of resection versus non-resection surgery for sigmoid volvulus (SV), a condition requiring a balance between recurrence prevention and mortality minimization.
METHODS: A comprehensive search of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library identified studies comparing resection and non-resection surgeries for SV. UNLABELLED: This study aimed to evaluate the surgical treatment outcome of patients with colorectal cancer having ulcerative colitis (UC).
METHODS: We examined 112 patients who underwent the surgery from 1998 to 2016.
