Real-World Evaluation of the Sysmex XN-9100 WDF-WPC Workflow: Diagnostic Performance, False-Negative Burden, and Potential Optimization of Smear Review Workload.

Background: Modern hematology analyzers integrate multiparametric technologies and adaptive flagging algorithms to support rapid detection of abnormal leukocyte populations. The Sysmex XN-9100 employs the White Blood Cell Differential (WDF) channel for first-line screening and the White Precursor Cell (WPC) channel as a reflex test for improved detection of blasts and abnormal lymphocytes. Although widely implemented, the real-world diagnostic performance and workflow implications of this integrated strategy remain incompletely characterized. Objectives: To evaluate, in a large real-world coho

Insulin resistance: The role in comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus and depression.

Insulin resistance (IR) plays a significant role in the pathophysiology of comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and depression (CDD) through multifaceted mechanisms, including dysregulation of insulin signaling (both central and peripheral), neuroendocrine disturbances (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction and monoaminergic neurotransmission impairment), chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, disruption of the microbiota-gut-brain axis, reduced brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels, and altered synaptic plasticity. These IR-related pathways may predispose individuals to depr

Enhancing referrals to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services: the EN-CAMHS mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: National Health Service Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services are specialist teams that assess and treat children and young people with mental health problems. Overall, 497,502 children were referred to National Health Service Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services between 2020 and 2021, and almost one-quarter of these referrals were not successful. Unsuccessful referrals are often distressing for children and families who are turned away usually after a long waiting period and without necessarily being redirected to alternative services. The process is also costly to se

Arterial spin labeling magnetic resonance evaluates changes of cerebral blood flow in patients with mild traumatic brain injury.

OBJECTIVES: The patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) accounts for more than 80% of the patients with brain injury. Most patients with mTBI have no abnormalities in CT examination. Therefore, most patients choose to self-care and recover rather than seeking medical treatment. In fact, mTBI may result in persistent cognitive decline and neurobehavioral dysfunction. In addition, changes occurred in neurochemistry, metabolism, and cells after injury may cause changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF), which is one of the causes of secondary injury and slow brain repair. This study aims to e

Beyond the Needle: Is Liquid Biopsy the Future of Veterinary Medicine?

The detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) is a minimally invasive approach for diagnosing and monitoring cancer. These liquid biopsy-based strategies enable the identification of primary or metastatic tumors and provide valuable information on tumor biology and treatment response. A variety of techniques are employed to analyze components obtained through liquid biopsy. While CTCs are typically detected using cell-based methods, ctDNA is commonly analyzed using highly sensitive molecular approaches, including quantitative PCR (qPCR), digital PCR (dPCR),

Digitally Mediated Occupational Therapy to Increase Physical Activity in Urban and Rural Breast Cancer Survivors: Protocol for a Single-Arm Feasibility Trial.

BACKGROUND: The 5-year survival rate for breast cancer (BC) has increased in recent years. However, functional limitations associated with BC treatment (eg, loss of strength, fatigue, and lymphedema) often have far-reaching effects on survivors' physical and mental health. Aerobic physical activity (PA) and muscle-strengthening exercise (MSE) can reduce functional limitations, and occupational therapy (OT) can support these health-promoting behaviors after treatment. Yet, barriers to access among BC survivors (eg, time burden and distance to the OT clinic) limit participation in OT programing.

Inter- and Intrapersonal Associations Between Physiology and Mental Health: A Longitudinal Study Using Wearables and Mental Health Surveys.

BACKGROUND: More than 1 in 8 people potentially live with a mental health disorder, yet fewer than half receive treatment. Poor mental health awareness may contribute to this treatment gap, and digital health technologies, like wearables and their associated phone- and web-based applications, have the potential to reduce the mental health awareness gap due to their ease of adoption, objective feedback, and high rate of engagement. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to better understand the relationships between mental health and objective wearable-derived metrics. METHODS: We examined the longitudi

Comparison of the Effects of Left, Right, and Bilateral Carotid Baroreceptor Stimulation on Autonomic and Hemodynamic Responses Using an Indigenously Developed Paired Neck Chamber Device.

Introduction Baroreflex function plays a critical role in cardiovascular regulation, with carotid baroreceptors exerting a significant influence on autonomic and hemodynamic responses. While prior studies have suggested functional asymmetry between the left and right carotid baroreceptors, the findings remain inconsistent. These inconsistencies stem from several limitations, including small sample sizes, reliance on animal models, and inadequate consideration of confounding factors such as respiratory influence and baseline autonomic tone. A major barrier to conducting well-controlled human st
