The lymphoid tissue that is associated with the intestinal tract, the so-called gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), is well developed in the chicken. Depending on the location, it is present as aggregations of lymphoid cells, or organized in lymphoid follicles and tonsils. Coloduodenal fistula is an uncommon disease entity. It can be caused by either a malignant or benign disease. We report the fifth case of coloduodenal fistula secondary to colonic diverticulosis. Our patient, a 60-year-old man, presented with severe diarrhoea and recurrent severe hypokalaemia. A partial colectomy with en bloc excision of the fistula was performed, and the duodenal defect was closed primarily. A literature review was carried out on the aetiology, presentation, diagnosis and management of coloduodenal fistula.

PURPOSE: Diverticulosis is defined by the presence of diverticula along any segment of the GI tract. Diverticulosis and its associated complications may involve the appendix. The imaging and histological findings of 21 cases of diverticulitis of the appendix are reviewed.

After a short literature review of diverticulosis of the colon and its complications, the authors give a thorough description of two cases treated by them for sigmoid colon diverticulosis complicated with occlusive ileus. We reported a case of 79-year old woman with known large bowel diverticulosis presenting with small bowel obstruction due to stone impaction - found on plain abdominal X-ray. Contrast studies demonstrated small bowel diverticulosis. A review was undertaken of 103 patients with pharyngeal pouch presenting over a 10-year period. Management was conservative in 35 patients and 68 patients were treated using external diverticulectomy and cricopharyngeus myotomy. The fistula rate was 8.9% and median hospital stay was 7 days. The results of this large series are compared to other reported series, and a long-term follow-up showing clinical outcome is reported.

A new surgical technique for the treatment of moderate to large hypopharyngeal diverticula is described. The procedure is particularly useful in debilitated patients in that it is quick and guarantees closure of the party wall between the pouch and upper oesophagus.

Two cases of diverticular abscess presented with abdominal pain, pelvic mass and vaginal discharge. Both patients had previously undergone hysterectomy. The authors report their experience on transvaginal ultrasound in the diagnosis of urethral diverticula, using a high frequency linear probe, that is generally employed for transrectal prostate sonography. This non invasive method seems to be more reliable than voiding cystourethrography.
