Prediction of primary admission total charges following lumbar disc arthroplasty utilizing machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Lumbar degenerative disc disease (LDDD) is a widespread condition contributing to chronic lower back pain and impaired mobility. While spinal fusion has been the conventional treatment, it poses drawbacks including extended recovery periods and the risk of adjacent segment degeneration. Lumbar disc arthroplasty (LDA) has emerged as a motion-preserving alternative with the potential to mitigate these risks. This study aimed to assess how factors such as hospital size, regional location, and patient characteristics influence hospitalization charges during the initial admission for LD

Climatic, environmental, and social factors in Visceral Leishmaniasis: A spatio-temporal perspective in Brazilian biomes.

Vector-borne diseases (VBDs) remain a major global public health challenge, with considerable economic and social impacts. Phlebotomine sand flies, the vectors of the protozoan responsible for visceral leishmaniasis (VL), are highly sensitive to climatic and environmental conditions, which define biome characteristics. Brazil has six distinct biomes, offering a unique setting to explore the spatial variability of VL. We identified and compared climatic, environmental, and social variables associated with VL incidence (IncVL) across Brazilian municipalities and within each biome, excluding Pamp

Prevalence of Neospora caninum and associated risk factors in semi-intensive female water buffaloes reared in Greece, using an ELISA kit on milk samples.

Neospora caninum is an apicomplexan (family: Sarcocystidae) protozoan parasite with a global distribution. In the N. caninum life cycle, dogs and other related canids are the definitive hosts, while other animals such as water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) constitute the intermediate host for this parasite. In many countries, the water buffalo is of high economic importance, providing valuable high-quality products for human needs. Although knowledge concerning the prevalence of this parasite in intermediate animal host populations is crucial, data from water buffalo are scarce. Keeping this in

Rising premature menopause and variations by education level in India.

The proportion of women experiencing premature menopause is on the rise in India, particularly in the age groups of 30-39 years. Consequently, there is a need to understand the factors influencing the prevalence of premature menopausal status among women. Our study uses the data from 180,743 women gathered during the latest Indian version of the Demography Health Survey (National Family Health Survey-5). Our results suggest that close to 5% of women in rural areas and 3% of women in urban areas experience premature menopause, and this figure varies across Indian States. The regression results

One Health and sex and gender-related perspective in the ecosystem: Interactions among drivers involved in the risk of leptospirosis in Europe. A scoping review.

Leptospirosis has a complex transmission, involving rodents and many species of domestic and wild animals. Carrier animals spread leptospires, contaminating soil and water, the main sources of human infection. The risk of infection is modulated by socio-economic factors, environment and host animals and has changed, historically linked to agriculture but now prevalent in recreational environments. Leptospirosis also reveal gender-specific exposure patterns that determine infection risks. Emphasizing the interconnectedness of humans, animals, and the environment, the One Health approach highlig…

Analyzing the effect of view factors on surface heat flux, surface temperature, and vegetation cover.

With the increase in population in cities, economic, social, and environmental problems continue to increase, and it is thought that the microclimatic conditions created by these problems will cause more environmental problems. One of the factors affecting the urban climate in urban areas is urban geometry. The climate of a region changes due to the shape of the land surface, human activities, atmospheric movements, and latent and sensible heat fluxes. Sky view factor (SVF), building view factor (BVF), and tree view factor (TVF) are actively used in the determination of urban geometry. However
