Complete non-puerperial uterine inversion is rare and when present is usually associated with a prolapsed submucous fibroid. The inversion in this case was associated with a uterine sarcoma in an 88 year old diabetic patient, gravida 13, who presented with a four month history of intermittent vaginal bleeding. She was successfully managed with a total abdominal hysterectomy and some of the difficulties with diagnosis and management are highlighted.

In order to study changes occurring on the surfaces of human endometrial epithelial cells in the presence of an implanted blastocyst, we used scanning electron microscopy for investigation of five endometrial biopsies and three human implantation sites obtained in vitro. All specimens showed areas with endometrial pinopodes, separated by cells displaying microvilli or cilia at the apical surface. AIM: Evaluation of the estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER and PR) in different degrees of endometrial hyperplasias.
METHODS: 10 cases of each degree of endometrial hyperplasia (simple, complex and atypical) were analyzed using the avidin-biotin-peroxidase technique and monoclonal antibodies applied to formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue.

The aim of the study was to establish the reproducibility of transvaginal sonographic measurements of endometrial thickness in patients with postmenopausal bleeding (PMB). In a prospective blind study, two examiners measured the endometrial thickness in 48 patients presenting with PMB by transvaginal sonography on two separate occasions, 30 min apart. A 46-year-old woman presented with a large abdominopelvic mass. Exploration revealed a large cystic mass that arose from the posterior leaf of the right broad ligament. The endometrial cavity is an isosceles trapezoid that changes in shape with the phase of the cycle. The distance from the fundus to where the cavity narrows to 12 mm is the effective length. This and the total length of the uterine cavity can be measured with the Wing Sound. IUCD complications are more frequent if the length of a device exceeds the effective length or the width of the uterine cavity. Devices must be designed to fit the uterine cavity and to conform to physiological changes in the shape of the organ.
