BACKGROUND: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is a common procedure and accounts for an increasing proportion of an endoscopist's workload. Serious complications can occur from inaccurate abdominal wall puncture. Electronic three-dimensional imaging has been used to aid colonoscopy. We adapted the principles of this technique to PEG insertion in a procedure called magnetic positional imaging.

The study aimed at further development of a mechanised gait trainer which would allow non-ambulant people to practice a gait-like motion repeatedly. To simulate normal gait, discrete stance and swing phases, lasting 60% and 40% of the gait cycle respectively, and the control of the movement of the centre of mass were required. In an open study the acceptability of a newly designed vaginal ring was evaluated. The ring being developed for contraceptive purposes was made of ethylene-vinyl-acetate copolymer (EVA). This report describes the use of a new implantable device for distraction osteogenesis of the maxilla in treatment of midface hypoplasia seen in craniofacial syndromes. The technique of distraction osteogenesis is a recent advance in plastic surgery for treatment of bone growth disorders. The device is totally implantable except for the activating pin and can provide up to 30 mm of total advancement. We will describe our surgical technique and distraction protocol, illustrated by a case report of the device successfully used in a child with Crouzon syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic stenting is widely used for drainage in benign and malignant strictures of the bile and pancreatic ducts. Accurate fitting of the stent to the anatomic ductal features is essential, although this is often done by visual assessment alone.
METHODS: A new guiding catheter, the measuring-mounting catheter, with radiopaque bands at 1 cm intervals from its distal end, was used in 10 patients. Translaryngeal tracheostomy is a new type of minimally invasive technique for bedside tracheostomy in intensive care patients.
