The case is reported of a patient with a mixed epithelial tumor, composed mainly of a clear cell and endometrioid carcinoma, arising from a focus of preexisting endometriosis of the round ligament. The tumor was presented as a painful inguinal hernia.

The purpose of this study was to examine hysterosalpingographic findings and reproductive performance in patients previously managed non-surgically for ectopic pregnancy. Forty-nine patients with unruptured ectopic pregnancies were treated either by expectant management (n = 16) or medically (n = 33), using transvaginal methotrexate or sulprostone injection. The treatment was successful in 35 patients (71.5%), 12 out of 16 and 23 out of 33 in the two groups respectively. Hydrotubation treatment of uterine tube impotency of an inflammatory origin results in many cases in stubborn hemodynamic disorders in the small pelvis organs, that may be normalized after exposure to a permanent magnetic field (magnetophores). Multiple-modality treatment results in recovery of the uterine tube patency in 50% of cases and in pregnancy coming within a year in 22.6% of cases.

Twenty-seven patients with ovarian cancer underwent unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and were followed for 12-215 months (mean 80) after completion of therapy. Of these, nine patients who received pelvic irradiation subsequently developed ovarian failure. The majority of patients presenting with tubo-ovarian abscess caused by abdominopelvic actinomycosis are women using an IUD. Since the course of this disease is afebrile, and the diagnosis often established relatively late, it typically simulates a malignant tumour of the lower abdomen. Pelvic inflammatory disease is a common cause of tubal infertility. The pregnancy outcomes in 161 patients who underwent primary microsurgical tuboplasty for postinflammatory tubal disease at the Mayo Clinic from 1977 through 1981 were evaluated. The outcome (3-year rate) was evaluated for each category of microsurgical procedures. The proximal anastomosis group had a conception rate of 71% (50% live births, 30% spontaneous abortions, 6% ectopic pregnancies). The clearance pattern of maternal serum pregnancy specific beta 1-glycoprotein (SP1) was studied in 16 cases of tubal pregnancy (9 active and 7 regressed) after 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120 and 192 h following surgery. The mean values of the hormone in both groups showed a statistically highly significant difference in all measurements before and after treatment (P less than 0.001), but they followed the same exponential regression pattern. The half-life of SP1 in active tubal pregnancies after salpingectomy was 36.2 h and in regressed tubal pregnancies after salpingostomy was 37.5 h.

Salpingitis is exceptional in pre-pubertal girls. The authors compare a case of histologically and bacteriologically well documented salpingitis in a 3 year old girl to another case in a pre-pubertal 14 year old girl and review the literature on the subject. Six other cases have been reported. The clinical presentation is very variable and, in the absence of ultrasonography or laparoscopy, laparotomy is required for both the diagnosis and the treatment.

Various experimental monkey models have been used for the study of mycoplasmal infections of the urogenital tract. Direct inoculation of Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma urealyticum into the urethra of male monkeys resulted in successful reisolation of the organisms from the urethra without giving rise to signs of urethritis during the observation period. Chronic inflammation is a frequent cause of tuboplasty failure. Therefore, it would be useful for one to know the microbiologic agent of infection and to treat it before the tuboplasty. By laparoscopy, a search for Chlamydia trachomatis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, and other microbiologic agents was carried out in the peritoneum and tubes of 118 women divided into 3 groups. A major problem in tubal reconstructive surgery is the recurrence of peritubal and periovarian adhesions which negate the surgical endeavors. In many cases the etiology of these adhesions is obscure. Histologic re-evaluation with polarized light of 49 resected adhesions revealed residual cornstarch glove powder and suture material in seven specimens. It is concluded that cornstarch powder may be an active agent, and may not be as innocuous as its widespread use indicates.
