Chylopericardium in a Dog with Concurrent Chylothorax, Mesothelioma, and Bilateral Brachiocephalic Vein Thrombosis: A Case Report.

Chylopericardium is an extremely rare disorder in dogs, and its underlying mechanisms and optimal management strategies remain poorly defined. This report describes a dog with chylopericardium complicated by concurrent chylothorax, bilateral brachiocephalic vein thrombosis, and mesothelioma. A 6-year-old neutered male Shiba Inu presented with respiratory distress and was diagnosed with chylothorax and chylopericardium based on fluid analysis. Computed tomography revealed multiple thoracic ducts and bilateral brachiocephalic vein thrombosis but no definitive site of lymphatic leakage. Surgical

Case report: A special case of pneumonia with a novel STAT3 mutation and Talaromyces marneffei infection.

BACKGROUND: Talaromyces marneffei (TM) is an opportunistic pathogenic fungus, primarily reported in patients with congenital immune deficiencies. STAT3, a key molecule involved in fungal immune surveillance, plays a critical role in defense against fungal infections. Mutations in the STAT3 gene are associated with increased susceptibility to such infections. PRESENTATION OF CASE: An 11-month-old girl was admitted to our hospital with a 3-month history of recurrent coughing and wheezing and a recent 3-day history of hoarseness. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) and microbial culture of bronchoa

Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma: A Case Report of the Neurological Great Mimicker.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder that primarily affects immunocompromised individuals. It presents with diverse neurological phenotypes, making its diagnosis challenging and frequently delayed. Clinical heterogeneity is compounded by the limitations of available diagnostic methods, and the use of corticosteroids can mask imaging and histological characteristics, further increasing diagnostic delay. We describe a case of a 68-year-old woman with a history of Hashimoto's thyroiditis who presented with rapidly progressive dementia (RPD). Initi

Method for Identification and Bacterial Count Quantification in a Case of Ureaplasma Meningitis.

Intrauterine Ureaplasma infection is associated with chorioamnionitis and preterm birth. The difficulty of detecting Ureaplasma species by conventional culture methods makes definitive diagnosis of clinical infection challenging. Thus far, quantitative tests for Ureaplasma have been performed using adult cervical samples, amniotic fluid, and pediatric bronchial secretions, but quantification of bacterial count in central nervous system infections caused by Ureaplasma species has not been unreported. We report a case of culture-negative Ureaplasma meningitis in a preterm infant in whom novel te

Neuropsychiatric manifestations of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis in a 14-year-old female: A case report.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: This case underscores the critical importance of timely recognition and management of NMDAR encephalitis in adolescents to mitigate potential long-term sequelae. If a pediatric patient presents with suspected viral encephalitis, autoimmune etiology must be excluded via cerebrospinal fluid antibody assay to guide appropriate immunosuppressive therapy, and improve patient outcomes. ABSTRACT: Autoimmune encephalitis particularly involving the n-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) is recognized as a rare cause of acute encephalopathy in pediatric patients. The following case

Choroid plexus epithelium and its role in neurological diseases.

Choroid plexus epithelial cells can secrete cerebrospinal fluid into the ventricles, serving as the major structural basis of the selective barrier between the neurological system and blood in the brain. In fact, choroid plexus epithelial cells release the majority of cerebrospinal fluid, which is connected with particular ion channels in choroid plexus epithelial cells. Choroid plexus epithelial cells also produce and secrete a number of essential growth factors and peptides that help the injured cerebrovascular system heal. The pathophysiology of major neurodegenerative disorders like Alzhei

Complicated Ulceroglandular Tularemia.

A 52-year-old woman presented with a tender swelling in the right axilla, fever, a headache, nausea, and general weakness. On examination, she was found to have lymphangitis on the right arm and red papules on the 1st and 2nd fingers of the right hand. She had had prepared wild rabbit stew 5 days before disease onset. Serology and an ultrasound of the right axilla confirmed the diagnosis of ulceroglandular tularemia. The lymphadenitis did not resolve after streptomycin treatment so an incision was made and 30 cc of purulent fluid drained. Over the course of the next 3 months, the fluid continu

Analysis of non-Newtonian magnetic Casson blood flow in an inclined stenosed artery using Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivatives.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Arterial diseases would lead to several serious disorders in the cardiovascular system such as atherosclerosis. These disorders are mainly caused by the presence of fatty deposits, cholesterol and lipoproteins inside blood vessel. This paper deals with the analysis of non-Newtonian magnetic blood flow in an inclined stenosed artery. METHODS: The Casson fluid was used to model the blood that flows under the influences of uniformly distributed magnetic field and oscillating pressure gradient. The governing fractional differential equations were expressed using the Capu

Pericardial diseases in patients with hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism is a well-known cause of pericardial effusion (with an incidence of 3%-37%) and can cause cardiac tamponade in severe cases. In this review, we present the current knowledge on the epidemiology of hypothyroid-induced pericardial diseases, the mechanism through which low thyroid hormone levels affect the pericardium, the associated clinical manifestations, diagnostic tests and management options. Hypothyroidism causes pericardial effusion through increased permeability of the epicardial vessels and decreased lymphatic drainage of albumin, resulting in accumulation of fluid in the
