AIMS: We aimed to identify the clinical characteristics and examine outcomes in patients with significant tricuspid regurgitation (TR) who received transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI) compared with guideline directed medical therapy (GDMT).
METHODS AND RESULTS: Between 2015 and 2019, 124 patients with symptomatic severe TR were assessed at St. Michael's Hospital. Seventy-one patients were ineligible and received GDMT only while 53 patients received TTVI and GDMT. During follow-up, TTVI was associated with significant improvements in NYHA functional class and 6-min walk distance

Surgical mitral valve reintervention is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, and repeat repair is not always feasible. We examine the clinical outcomes of the NeoChord procedure after failed conventional mitral valve repair. A total of 312 patients were treated with the NeoChord repair procedure between January 2014 and December 2018 at 5 European centers. Clinical and echocardiographic data were reviewed to identify patients who had a prior surgical mitral valve repair procedure. The primary endpoint (Patient Success) was a composite of placement of at least 2 neochordae and e

Late explantation of transcatheter aortic biprosthesis with surgical aortic valve replacement is distinctively different from immediate rescue transcatheter valve explant, posing additional challenges due to the sickness of patients, severely adherent transcatheter device to the surrounding structure, and frequently necessary other concurrent procedures. There is clearly a learning curve for late explantation of transcatheter valves, whereas there is limited information with respect to the specific surgical technique for this entity. Herein I describe the key preoperative factors and critical

Functional mitral regurgitation is a clinical entity with increasing prevalence and significant impact on morbidity and mortality. Because of the unsatisfactory results of medical therapy and high perioperative risk resulting in low referral/high denial rates for surgical treatment, benefits of which still remain controversial, novel minimally invasive transcatheter techniques are under development. Herein, in the present review, we discuss the recent progress in the emerging field of catheter-based techniques for functional mitral regurgitation.

Edge-to-edge mitral repairment is a valid alternative in patient at high surgical risk. It is important to differentiate outcomes for functional and degenerative mitral regurgitation. The need of joint efforts to ensure a valid therapeutic pathway for these patients.

The development of transcatheter interventions to provide a minimally invasive alternative to open surgical repair has revolutionized the care of patients with valvular heart disease. Recently, this technology has been expanded to allow for the treatment of pathology of the mitral valve. This review discusses the anesthetic considerations for patients presenting for transcatheter management of mitral valve disease, including transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) and transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVRep). The initial focus is on the current literature on transcatheter interventions

Percutaneous PV implantation can be achieved in very small children (<20 kg) The clinic impact appears beneficial in the early term Studies to determine whether this treatment pathway will preserve RV function and translate to better survival needs investigation.

Mitral valve construction using extracellular matrix (ECM) is a relatively new procedure. In this case, a 15-month-old boy with a history of severe mitral valve regurgitation secondary to endocarditis underwent mitral valve surgery. Mitral valve repair was not possible, and thus, a 17 mm extracellular matrix cylinder valve (ECM-CV) was constructed for valve replacement. The ECM-CV is clearly imaged using echocardiography, especially three-dimensional imaging, that helped define valve function. As the use of ECM for valve construction increases, echocardiography will play an essential role in e
