Little empirically-based information is available regarding how best to intervene with substance-abusing homeless mothers. This study pilot-tested a comprehensive intervention with 15 homeless women and their 2- to 6-year-old children, recruited from a local family shelter. METHODS: This 15-year retrospective longitudinal cohort study compared mortality outcomes of homeless and non-homeless adults attending the emergency department of an inner-city public hospital in Melbourne, Victoria between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2004. People who become homeless for the first time in late life are a growing but understudied population. This study draws on administrative data from one shelter (N = 1,214 first-time homeless) to assess the extent to which age is related to shelter stay and, to examine psychosocial factors that may be associated with shelter departure. Our bivariate and survival analysis results suggest that older homeless men stay in the shelter 2 weeks longer than younger clients. Older men with pending legal issues and mobility concerns were more likely to leave the shelter than those without such concerns. F

BACKGROUND: Angioinvasive Rhizomucor pusillus infection with dissemination to the liver and spleen is exceedingly uncommon, representing less than 1% of reported cases of mucormycosis.
METHODS: Diagnosis of mucormycosis is often difficult using conventional methods that rely on broad-based non-septate hyphae present on histologic examination and morphological identification of the cultured organism. Our laboratory also uses an in-house panfungal molecular assay to rapidly diagnose invasive fungal infection when conventional methods do not provide definitive results.

OBJECTIVE: To study the prevalence and spectrum of self-reported childhood sexual abuse (CSA) in a sample of medical students from a medical college in Southern India.
METHODS: A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to consenting students of a medical college located at Puducherry. Those students who could not be contacted despite three attempts were excluded.
