OBJECTIVES: To evaluate retrospectively the body image and sexual functioning in patients who have a testicular prosthesis (TP).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The medical charts were evaluated for 30 adult patients who received 32 TPs between 1985 and 1997. A questionnaire was mailed to each patient, asking about body image, satisfaction with the implant and with sexual functioning.

Percutaneous closure of a patent arterial duct was performed in 58 patients. A Rashkind double umbrella was inserted in 20 patients. A supplementary double umbrella or coils were implanted in four who had residual leaks after 12 months. A number of vaginal and urethral devices have recently been introduced for the treatment of female urinary stress incontinence. Nine recent studies of these were scrutinized. The median corrected subjective cured/improved rate was 63% for the vaginal and 43% for the urethral devices. The latter group have a high percentage of side-effects with related drop-outs. The deformity in the bony contour of the forehead following the osteoplastic flap procedure on the frontal sinus, termed embossment, occurs in a small but definite number of cases. This complication arises from the combined processes of resorption and deposition of bone following disturbance of the periosteum in performing the operation. A simple and highly reliable method of cosmetic correction employing acrylic cranioplasty has been successfully utilized in a series of cases without complications. The details of the operative technique will be outlined.

The 1-year experience of 63 women using an intraurethral insert for the management of stress or mild mixed urinary incontinence is presented, emphasizing safety and efficacy. Objective criteria, including standardized pad weight tests and patient diaries, were employed to evaluate the device's effectiveness.
