Addressing non-communicable disease management during disasters in the US Virgin Islands: a mixed methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Extreme weather events, like hurricanes Irma and Maria, have disproportionately impacted individuals with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI), exacerbating health disparities due to healthcare disruptions. The USVI and other Caribbean islands face increased morbidity and mortality from NCDs from rising risk factors and lack of improving in quality of care. This study explores the experiences of individuals with NCDs during these hurricanes to identify strategies for improving disaster preparedness and response. METHODS: A mixed-methods cross-sectio

Younger adult women who had a stroke or at high stroke risk: Exploration of their experiences and needs.

BACKGROUND: Worldwide, women, particularly younger and middle-aged (≤65 years), are disproportionately affected by stroke. Although the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits is integral for stroke risk factor modification, little is known about younger adult women who had a stroke or are at high risk of stroke-their lifestyle-related knowledge, behaviors, associated and influencing facilitators, and barriers to support brain health, which this study aimed to address. METHODS: A qualitative interpretivist design was employed that was part of a larger quality improvement mixed-methods study. Dat

Self-care strategies that support PrEP adherence: a qualitative study with female sex workers in rural Uganda.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released revised guidelines on self-care interventions for health and well-being, which, in 2022, included recommendations supporting equitable access to information about and availability of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as a self-care strategy. Successful implementation of PrEP as an HIV prevention strategy extends beyond providing access to medication. It hinges on individuals adopting self-care strategies to ensure adherence to PrEP in their daily lives. This paper aims to explore self-care strategies that bolster adherence to oral PrEP among

Evaluating the effectiveness of telehealth-delivered Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI) for children and adolescents following recent trauma: a multi-zite randomized controlled trial in France.

BACKGROUND: Children and adolescents exposed to traumatic events (TEs) are at risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with long-term emotional, cognitive, and social consequences. Early interventions within the first months post-trauma are essential, yet structured, evidence-based approaches remain limited. The Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI) is a brief, family-centered approach that enhances parental support and reduces post-traumatic symptoms. While effective in the U.S., its implementation in European settings, particularly via telehealth, remains un

A Pilot Study of a Primary Palliative Care Communication Intervention (PRECURSOR) to Address Supportive Oncology Needs for Patients With Incurable Cancer and Their Caregivers in the Outpatient Oncology Setting.

IntroductionAs cancer care increasingly shifts to outpatient settings, patients with incurable cancer and their caregivers face growing challenges in addressing supportive oncology needs across five domains: informational, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual. Integration of supportive care in routine oncology practice-or primary palliative care-remains limited. Oncology encounters prioritize clinical agendas, leaving little time for supportive care and setting the stage for adverse outcomes. This study pilot tested a primary palliative care communication intervention, PRECURSOR (NCT0599

Effectiveness of psychosocial interventions in improving the quality of life for adult patients with cancer in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs): a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Several systematic reviews have been published on psychosocial care interventions (PCIs) in cancer care. However, there are limited systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRMA) on the effectiveness of PCIs in cancer care for adults patients in low- and-middle income countries (LMICs). This study aimed at synthesizing the available evidence on the effectiveness of PCI in improving the quality of life (QoL) of adult cancer patients in LMICs. We registered the protocol with PROSPERO (ID: CRD4202342156) before conducting this SRMA. Studies published between 2002 and 2023 were searched from MEDLINE,

Strategies for enhancing deep video encoding efficiency using the Convolutional Neural Network in a hyperautomation mechanism.

With ongoing social progress, three-dimensional (3D) video is becoming increasingly prevalent in everyday life. As a key component of 3D video technology, depth video plays a crucial role by providing information about the distance and spatial distribution of objects within a scene. This study focuses on deep video encoding and proposes an efficient encoding method that integrates the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with a hyperautomation mechanism. First, an overview of the principles underlying CNNs and the concept of hyperautomation is presented, and the application of CNNs in the intra-

Humanization of nursing care in hospitalized patients with non-communicable diseases: a phenomenological qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: The inpatient care of patients with non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) often involves extended stays, where the human quality of nursing care is as relevant as the technical interventions. However, dehumanization in daily practice, manifested in impersonal routines, deficient communication, and inattention to the patient’s values, erodes trust and wellbeing. Guided by Jean Watson’s theory of human caring, this study explored the lived experiences of hospitalized patients in relation to nursing care in Mexican public hospitals. METHODS: A qualitative study using a hermeneutic-

LinkMD: Linking Medical and Dental Records with 4 Linking Algorithms.

Despite well-established connections between oral and systemic health, electronic health records (EHRs) and electronic dental records (EDRs) remain largely siloed due to infrastructural and interoperability challenges. This separation limits interdisciplinary care and data-driven research to generate practice-based evidence. We developed and validated 4 algorithmic frameworks specifically designed to link EHR with EDR across nonintegrated systems. Using data from more than 1.7 million medical records and 222,480 dental records spanning a 10-y period at Temple University, we evaluated 4 linkage
