Lumbar spine marker placement errors and soft tissue artifact during dynamic flexion/extension and lateral bending in individuals with chronic low back pain.

Quantitative in vivo biomechanical assessments are typically performed with optoelectronic motion capture (MoCap) using retroreflective markers attached to skin. This technique inherently contains measurement errors from both marker placement on palpated bony landmarks and skin motion relative to the underlying bone (i.e., soft tissue artifact (STA)). Research on lumbar spine STA is scarce and limited to young, healthy participants in static positions. This study aimed to evaluate static placement errors, lumbar spine STA from MoCap marker clusters (MMC), and linear relationships between STA a

Peptides as modulators of FPPS enzyme: A multifaceted evaluation from the design to the mechanism of action.

Bone diseases are medical conditions caused by the loss of bone homeostasis consecutive to increased osteoclast activity and diminished osteoblast activity. The mevalonate pathway (MVA) is crucial for maintaining this balance since it drives the post-translational prenylation of small guanosine triphosphatases (GTPases) proteins. Farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FPPS) plays a crucial role in the MVA pathway. Consequently, in the treatment of bone-related diseases, FPPS is the target of FDA-approved nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (N-BPs), which have tropism mainly for bone tissue due to th

Central diabetes insipidus: A rare primary manifestation of small-cell lung carcinoma.

Diabetes insipidus (DI) is a disorder of water hemostasis that is associated with polyuria-polydipsia syndrome. Central DI (CDI) primarily results from autoimmune destruction, traumatic injury, or anatomical damage caused by neoplasms. Craniopharyngioma, germinoma, and distant metastases are the main neoplastic causes, with pituitary adenomas rarely manifesting as CDI. Pituitary gland metastasis is rare, with the vast majority of cases being asymptomatic. We present a rare case of pituitary metastasis originating from small-cell carcinoma of the lung with CDI and skin swellings as the primary

[Esophageal stenosis as a result of a right aortic arch in 2 cats].

A 3-month-old and a 4-year-old cat were presented in the clinic due to regurgitation. The kitten had displayed the symptoms since it had been fed solid foods and was smaller than the litter mates. The 4-year-old cat showed sudden-onset symptoms for 5 days prior to presentation and had a good general condition. Positive contrast thoracic radiographs of both cats in lateral recumbency showed an esophageal dilatation cranial to the heart base and raised a suspicion of foreign material with soft tissue density in this area. In the 4-year-old cat, findings of ventrodorsal thoracic radiographs were

Tuberculous Otomastoiditis: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

Where tuberculous (TB) infection is prevalent, the diagnosis of TB otomastoiditis (TOM) should be considered in a chronically discharging ear that does not respond to standard medical treatment. We are reporting a case of TB otomastoiditis with an adjacent deep neck abscess in a healthy 18-year-old male. He presented with a five five-month history of right otorrhea with hearing loss and a concurrent right level two neck swelling, without any signs of acute infection. Aural polyp was seen occupying the external ear canal (EAC) obscuring the tympanic membrane. There was no clinical improvement d

Toward a deep learning-based magnetic resonance imaging only workflow for postimplant dosimetry in I-125 seed brachytherapy for prostate cancer.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The current standard imaging-technique for creating postplans in seed prostate brachytherapy is computed tomography (CT), that is associated with additional radiation exposure and poor soft tissue contrast. To establish a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) only workflow combining improved tissue contrast and high seed detectability, a deep learning-approach for automatic seed segmentation on MRI-scans was developed. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients treated with I-125 seed brachytherapy received a postplan-CT and a 1.5 T MRI-scan on nominal day 30 after implantation. For MR

Normal dimensions of the lacrimal gland on magnetic resonance imaging in Indian adult population: a retrospective study.

INTRODUCTION: the lacrimal gland size is affected by a variety of pathologic conditions like inflammatory, infections, neoplastic, autoimmune and granulomatous disorders. Earlier, the dimensions of the gland were estimated by extracting lacrimal glands from cadavers, later ultrasonography and computed tomography studies were used, but had limited soft tissue differentiation. The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data from normal orbits and determine lacrimal gland dimensions. METHODS: five hundred and twelve (512) consecutive MRI brain contrast

3D Printing Applications for Craniomaxillofacial Reconstruction: A Sweeping Review.

The field of craniomaxillofacial (CMF) surgery is rich in pathological diversity and broad in the ages that it treats. Moreover, the CMF skeleton is a complex confluence of sensory organs and hard and soft tissue with load-bearing demands that can change within millimeters. Computer-aided design (CAD) and additive manufacturing (AM) create extraordinary opportunities to repair the infinite array of craniomaxillofacial defects that exist because of the aforementioned circumstances. 3D printed scaffolds have the potential to serve as a comparable if not superior alternative to the "gold standard

Primary synovial sarcoma of the thyroid gland: a CARE compliant case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Synovial sarcoma is a subtype of soft tissue sarcoma. Synovial sarcoma in the head and neck region is relatively unusual. Primary synovial sarcoma of the thyroid gland (PSST) is first reported in 2003 by Inako Kikuchi. PSST is extremely rare with only 15 cases documented globally. PSST shows rapid disease progression and a relatively poor prognosis. However, diagnosis and therapy are challenging for clinical surgeons. In this article, we reported the 16th PSST case and reviewed the PSST cases globally for further clinical application. PATIENT CONCERNS: The patient was referred to u
