Eight antibiotics, chlortetracycline, demeclocycline, doxycycline, methacycline, minocycline, oxytetracycline, tetracycline and rolitetracycline, were separated and quantified in Spanish honey extracts of different floral origin using a commercial RP-C18 HPLC column and two different on-line detectors (diode array and electrospray time-of-flight mass spectrometry (ESI-TOF-MS) systems). A procedure for the rapid screening of inhibitors of glycation reaction, based on their ability to protect RNase against sugar induced inactivation of the enzyme is described. OBJECTIVE: Anemia is a widespread problem among infants and children in many parts of the world, and it is often associated with some trace elements (iron, zinc, copper) and heavy metals (cadmium and lead). Aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between anemia and these elements.

A novel nanocomposite of CdTe-PAMAM-MWNT was synthesized by covalently linking CdTe quantum dots (QDs) onto highly water-soluble multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) functionalized with dendritic poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM). The IR, UV-vis and TEM methods has been used for the characterization of the composites. A facile method for controlling the density of QDs in the composite by simply changing the ratio of CdTe QDs/PAMAM-MWNT, as was verified by the TEM images. This prospective case-control study included 78 women between 15 to 45 years of age from rural area to see changes in serum copper level as a consequence of oral contraceptive use. Three quantitative and non-invasive techniques were used to monitor angiogenesis in Kaposi's sarcoma patients: thermography, laser Doppler imaging (LDI), and near-infrared spectroscopy. Before and after combination cytotoxic and anti-angiogenesis therapy, blood volume, oxygenated hemoglobin, temperature, and blood flow were analyzed. These three techniques are objective, easy to perform, and appear to be very sensitive in assessing changes in the lesions upon administration of therapy.

We describe here a simple assay that allows the visual detection of a protease. The method takes advantage of the high molar absorptivity of the plasmon band of gold colloids and is based on the color change of their solution when treated with dithiols. We used C- and N-terminal cysteinyl derivatives of a peptide substrate exploiting its selective recognition and cleavage by a specific protease. A sensitive, specific and simple color test for the improvised explosive urea nitrate is described. It is based on the formation of a red pigment upon the reaction between urea nitrate and p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde (p-DMAC) under neutral conditions. In vivo microdialysis was used together with capillary electrophoresis (CE) to monitor the concentration of trimebutine maleate (TM) in rabbit blood. Dialysis probe was perfused at 3 microl/min resulting in relative recovery of 26.6+/-3.1% (n=3). After a one step sample preparation the samples were injected directly into the capillary. A new series of heavy metal oxide (PbO) based zinc borate glasses in the chemical composition of (95-x)B(2)O(3)-5ZnO-xPbO (x=10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 mol%) have been prepared to verify their UV filtering performance.
