PURPOSE: To study the surgical outcomes of consecutive exotropia and predictive factors, and to compare the medial rectus (MR) advancement, lateral rectus (LR) recession, or a combination of both procedures.
METHODS: A retrospective study of patients diagnosed with consecutive exotropia that were operated on (2000-2020) were included. The convergence was classified from 0 to +++, with good: ++/+++ and poor: 0/+. A good outcome was considered when the final horizontal deviation was < 10 prism diopters (pd). Follow-up since the surgery and the number of reoperations were registered.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this systematic review is to identify cases of neurogenic ocular palsy in the presence of COVID-19 and to document patient characteristics, type of palsy and possible aetiologies.
METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Medline and CINAHL databases was conducted on the 6th of January 2023 to identify cases of neurogenic ocular palsy in patients with current or previous COVID-19 infection. PURPOSE: To compare the binocular alignment status and convergence amplitude between phakic and pseudophakic older adults.
METHODS: The present report is a part of the Tehran Geriatric Eye Study (TGES), a population-based study performed on the elderly population above 60 years of age in Tehran, Iran. All study participants were transferred to the examination site and underwent complete ocular examinations including the measurement of uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity, objective and subjective refraction, unilateral and alternating cover tests, and slit-lamp biomicroscopy.

BACKGROUND: Anomalous ocular muscle insertions are a rare cause of ocular motility disturbances.
METHODS: We report the clinical presentation and the intraoperative findings of two cases with an abnormally nasally inserted superior oblique tendons presenting with a Brown syndrome-like clinical picture.
RESULTS: Case no 1 was a 5-year-old girl presenting with a chin up position. There was bilateral limitation of elevation in adduction, -4 on the right side and -3 on the left side with +1 downshoot on adduction on either side Patient was orthotropic in down-gaze with small V-pattern exotropia.

A rare case of idiopathic exercise-induced diplopia was reported. A 28-year-old male experienced diplopia during and after intensive exercise. These symptoms had been present for over a year. Accommodative esotropia is a condition commonly encountered by pediatric ophthalmologists. Patient with accommodative esotropia wear hyperopic glasses to decrease accommodation which occasionally provide them with good vision without glasses. Children are known to have limited compliance with glasses and patching. Their limited cooperation can also lead to variability in angle measurement across visits and defer surgery. To cope with these challenges, our team offered botulinum toxin injection to the medial rectus as an optional treatment while waiting for compliance and deferring the surgery.

We included adult patients (age ≥18 years) with sensory exotropia who underwent unilateral lateral rectus recession with adjustable suture and medial rectus resection with at least 2-year follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative data was collected. Either Krimsky or alternate and prism cover testing was used to measure the angle of deviation depending on patients' fixation ability. Glasses with full refractive correction were worn if they can provide better visual acuity. Exodeviation at near fixation was used in statistical analysis. PURPOSE: Child- and family-centered care is an increasingly important area in healthcare. Up to now, little attention has been paid to the experience of children and their parents in ophthalmological healthcare. During their conversations at Bartiméus, children indicated that the administration of eye drops constituted the most stressful element that needed to be improved.
