Night sweats has been defined as drenching sweats that require the patient to change bed clothes. In current studies night sweats appear in 30% of non-obstetric patients and affects approximately 60% of pregnant women. Differential diagnoses include infections, malignancy, medications, hot flashes and panic attacks, making of each patient a challenge. We present two patients with night sweating. BACKGROUND: Autonomic denervation is common in diabetes mellitus (DM). Pupillary sympathetic denervation (PSD) has been found in Horner syndrome following instillation of apraclonidine 0.5%. We have applied this technique to investigate the prevalence of PSD in DM.
METHODS: Apraclonidine 0.5% was instilled in the eyes of 50 patients with DM and 30 age-matched and gender-matched subjects without DM (control subjects). Pupil diameters (PD) were measured before and 60 minutes after instillation. The duration of DM and the degree of diabetic retinopathy (DR) were recorded for each patient.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate cardiovascular regulation and endocrine responses during the cold pressor test in patients with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI).
DESIGN: Experimental and control study.
SETTING: University laboratory, department of rehabilitation medicine, in Japan.
PARTICIPANTS: Eight quadriplegic subjects with complete spinal cord transection at the C6 to C8 level and 6 age-matched healthy subjects.
INTERVENTIONS: Cardiovascular and endocrine responses were examined during 2 minutes of control, 3 minutes of ice-water immersion of the foot, followed by a 3-minute recovery.

We used a panel of nine lectins to detect the glycosylation patterns of rat submandibular glycoproteins.
