The authors report on the sleep activation of the EEG-recordings by Promazine a Phenothiazine derivative that can be used also in babies and in those elder children who does not tolerate sleep deprivation. The EEG-s are much less altered then by other related compounds or by Barbiturates. The greatest efficacy could be reached in generalized epilepsies, but the method was helpful in other epilepsy forms too. It is emphasized that in no case of acute neurological symptoms of not epileptic origin showed the Promazine induced sleep a convulsive activity.

Continuous intra-arterial blood pressure measurement and electrocardiograms were obtained in two ambulatory patients with orthostatic hypotension due to autonomic dysfunction. Only in the last century was the narcoleptic syndrome recognized as a distinct entity fundamentally different from epilepsy. It is characterized by increased daytime sleepiness, usually as short sleep attacks, and by cataplexy. An obese man, with an attack of myocardial ischaemia, developed arrhythmias only when he was asleep. Episodes of sinus bradycardia occurred progressing to arterioventricular block and sinus arrest. These changes in the cardiac rhythm coincided with periods of sleep apnoea.

Sleep and respiration were recorded during two consecutive nights in 15 normal subjects, 18 patients suffering from narcolepsy and 9 with non-cataplectic hypersomnia.
