Seventy-two women diagnosed as parametritis were enrolled in this study and examined on the effective administration method of carbapenems, imipenem/cilastatin (IPM/CS), panipenem/betamipron (PAPM/BP) and meropenem (MEPM). BACKGROUND: Severe forms of uveitis can often only be managed sufficiently with systemic immunosuppression. All available drugs are known for their relative high rate of side-effects. Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), an immunosuppressant successfully used in management after organ transplantation and many autoimmune diseases, has shown remarkably less side-effects when used for various forms of uveitis in monotherapy or in combination with corticosteroids. Prostaglandin F2a was used for termination of pregnancy in two groups of patients. The first included eighteen patients with either missed abortion or intrauterine fetal death, and were treated by intrauterine-extraamniotic infusion of 20 mg prostaglandin F2a. Thirty three patients with hepatopulmonary amoebiasis were studied. Pulmonary involvement was observed in 55%, pleuro-pulmonary lesions in 30%. Typical chocolate coloured sputum was obtained in 24% and pleural fluid in 21% of patients. Entamoeba histolytica were demonstrable in the sputum in only 6% and in the pleural fluid in 15%. The best therapeutic results were obtained with a combination of dehydroemetine and metronidazole. However, metronidazole was found to be nearly as effective as dehydroemetine, and metronidazole 400 mg and 800 mg were equally effective.

A 4-week, double-blind, controlled multi-centre study was carried out in 235 patients with active rheumatoid arthritis to compare the efficacy and tolerance of 500 mg or 1000 mg diflunisal per day administered once daily, in the evening, or in divided, twice daily dosage. The prescribing patterns for hypnotic medications were surveyed in 765 patients of three skilled-nursing facilities and two intermediate-care facilities. Seven per cent of the patients received a hypnotic routinely; an additional 3 per cent had as-needed orders for a hypnotic medication. Temazepam, flurazepam, and triazolam were, in descending order, the three most commonly prescribed hypnotics and accounted for 79 per cent of the hypnotic prescriptions. BACKGROUND: There is little consensus regarding the use of postoperative antibiotics in the management of perforated appendicitis in children. Patients are commonly discharged with oral antibiotics after a course of intravenous antibiotics; however, recent literature suggests that patients can be safely discharged without any oral antibiotics. To further evaluate this protocol, we conducted a multicenter retrospective preimplementation/postimplementation study comparing rates of abscess formation and rehospitalization between patients discharged with and without oral antibiotics.
