INTRODUCTION: Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) present in the mucosal layer can be used as nutrients by certain intestinal bacteria, particularly members of the Bacteroides. GAG abundances are altered in some diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases, which may affect microbial composition and activity, and it is therefore important to understand GAG utilization by members of the gut microbiota.

BACKGROUND: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder associated with in utero exposure to the antiepileptic valproic acid (VPA) in humans, and similar exposure serves as a validated animal model. OBJECTIVE: Transient neonatal myasthenia gravis (TNMG) can render a neonate vulnerable to catastrophic respiratory depression. Our aim was to describe the clinical manifestations of TNMG, and to determine when the myasthenic signs become apparent in TNMG.

OBJECTIVE: To study manifestations and outcome of scrub typhus in infants.
METHODS: Case record analysis of infants with scrub typhus admitted to a tertiary care hospital, diagnosed by IgM ELISA from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2019.
RESULTS: Out of 374 children diagnosed with scrub typhus, 34 (9%) were infants.
