This review summarizes the treatment and resulting outcomes for total talar dislocation. The PubMed database was searched for articles about humans with total talar dislocation published in the English language in the last twenty years. The following data were entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet: type of dislocation, nature of associated fractures (if any), type of reduction/fixation utilized, immobilization, weight-bearing status, outcome, complications and average follow-up time. Thirty-nine articles reporting a total of 86 cases of total talar dislocation are included in this review.

OBJECTIVE: A catastrophic earthquake struck Wenchuan region of West China on May 12, 2008 and caused more than 69 225 deaths. This study was to analyze injury characteristics and treatment of the seismic patients based on Chinese Trauma Databank, which will be helpful for improvement of future medical rescue in potential disasters.
METHODS: Based on inpatients'medical records of seismic patients admitted into 11 hospitals, data were registered with Trauma Database System Version 3.0. Patients'general information, causes, clinical characteristics and treatment of injuries were studied.

INTRODUCTION: Fractures of the distal radius are one the commonest orthopaedic injuries. Recent advances in implant technology have seen a dramatic rise in the number of fractures treated with volar locked plates, as they permit accurate peri-articular reconstruction. The surgical approach along the bed of flexor carpii radialis (FCR) tendon encounters a number of key soft tissue and neurovascular structures during the dissection to the fracture plane. The aim of this study was to describe the exact position of such structures involved (and hence at risk) during the FCR approach.

The use of external fixation for management of distal femoral nonunions may minimise some of the problems frequently encountered in these patients. Fifteen patients treated by external fixation for distal femoral nonunions between 1987 and 1997 were reviewed. There were nine males and six females. The particularities and the authors' management of frontobasal fractures in children are discussed on the basis of cases treated at the authors' department during the last five years. Fifteen children aged between four and 16 years (mean eight years) made up 14.5% of all frontobasal fractures. The causes of the injury were equally divided between falls from a height of at least 2 m and traffic accidents. All children except one were treated immediately after the accident. The exception was a child with an accident two and a half years before operation and two episodes of late onset meningitis.
