[In search of nursing practices].

This article is based on a research begun in 1990 to gain a portrait of persons in the various holistic occupations in Québec. From this research, the author came to question the motivation that pushed so many nurses to go into holistic practices. The goal of the research was not to collect specific data about nurses but to identify those individuals now working in holistic therapies. The author summarizes the theoretical framework of the first project and outlines the research methods used. Since the results identified those therapists with a nursing background, it was possible for her to rev

Risk factors and consequences of mental health problems in nurses: A scoping review of cohort studies.

Mental health problems in nurses are prevalent and impairing. To date, no literature has comprehensively synthesised cohort evidence on mental health among nurses. This scoping review aimed to synthesise the existing literature on the risk factors and consequences of mental health problems in nurses. A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, EMBASE, Epistemonikos database, Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsycINFO from inception to March 2023. We identified 171 cohort studies from 16 countries, mostly (95.3%) from high-income economies. This review indicated that nurses worldwide encountered sig

The experience of home for people with chronic pain: A mixed methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic pain, defined as intermittent or continuous pain for a minimum of 3 months, is a prevalent and pervasive health issue that commonly results in occupational participation changes and individuals spending more time within the home. Yet the role of the home environment in pain and pain management has not been specifically explored. This study had two aims. The first aim was to explore how home is experienced for people with chronic pain across the six dimensions of home using the Dimensions of Home Measure. The second aim was to explore relationships between pain, mood, and

Return-to-Work Following Occupational Rehabilitation for Long COVID: Descriptive Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Emerging evidence suggests that worldwide, between 30% and 50% of those who are infected with COVID-19 experience long COVID (LC) symptoms. These symptoms create challenges with return-to-work (RTW) in a high proportion of individuals with LC. To tailor rehabilitation programs to LC sequelae and help improve RTW outcomes, more research on LC rehabilitation program outcomes is needed. OBJECTIVE: This study describes the characteristics and outcomes of workers who participated in an LC occupational rehabilitation program. METHODS: A cohort study was conducted. Descriptive variables

Excess Stress Fractures, Musculoskeletal Injuries, and Health Care Utilization Among Unfit and Overweight Female Army Trainees.

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal injuries are prevalent among military trainees and certain occupations. Fitness and body mass index (BMI) have been associated with musculoskeletal conditions, including stress fractures. HYPOTHESIS: The incidence of, and excess health care utilization for, stress fracture and non-stress fracture overuse musculoskeletal injuries during the first 6 months of service is higher among unfit female recruits. Those who exceeded body fat limits are at a greater risk of incident stress fractures, injuries, or health care utilization compared with weight-qualified recruits.

A study of unreasonable illegitimate tasks, administrative tasks, and sickness presenteeism amongst Norwegian physicians: an everyday struggle?

BACKGROUND: It has been shown that a recently defined stressor, 'illegitimate tasks', has negative effects on employees' work motivation and health. Better understanding of the illegitimate tasks undertaken by physicians might contribute to a more resource-efficient division of labour within the health care system, with beneficial effects on organisational economics and employee performance. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of unreasonable illegitimate tasks, their associations with workplace variables and their impact on health, in particular sickness presenteeism. METHODS: Cross-secti
