Maternal microbial factors that affect the fetus and subsequent offspring.

The maternal microbiome has emerged as an important area of investigation. While birth is a critical timepoint for initial colonization of the newborn, the fetus resides in the womb surrounded by multiple unique colonized niches. The maternal microbiome has recently been shown to be associated with several morbidities in offspring. Understanding the multiple bacterial niches within the pregnant woman and how they interact with the fetus in-utero can lead to novel therapies to improve the health of offspring. In this review, we provide an overview of the available literature on normal bacterial

[Term abdominal pregnancy with delivery of a living child. Two case reports].

The lack of antenatal care and the growing number of genital infections make ectopic pregnancy a current unrecognized pathology in areas with few physicians. Such pregnancies exceptionally reach term but delivery of a live infant is rare. We report two cases in which echographic diagnosis of abdominal pregnancy was followed by the delivery of a live child. In both cases, fetal hypotrophy led to neonatal death. Maternal outcome was however favorable with surgery to reduce the risk of hemorrhage. Safe childbearing requires improved preventive measures and better maternal sanitary conditions and

Description of 101 cases of nipple cracks and risk factors via case-control study in eight units of a perinatal network.

Nipple crack are a frequent complication of breastfeeding, causing pain for the mother and feeding difficulties for the baby with the risk of early cessation of breastfeeding. The characteristics of nipple cracks have rarely been described. Treatment varies according to the period of breasfeeding and the maternity ward. Eight maternity wards in a perinatal health network in western France followed up maternal nipple cracks. The cracks were described and their treatment was noted. The variables regarding the mothers, delivery conditions, health of newborns, and their ability to breastfeed were

Factors associated with inequalities in malnutrition among children in Ghana using the 2022 GDHS and WHO HEAT framework.

BACKGROUND: Childhood malnutrition can impair physical and cognitive development, thereby diminishing productivity at adulthood. Current research recognizes the crucial impact of early childhood nutrition on the long-term health and well-being of children. Ghana has achieved notable progress in lowering childhood malnutrition; nevertheless, it remains a major concern. This study advances current understanding on the socioeconomic drivers and magnitude of child malnutrition in the Ghanaian context. Misrecognition of need: women's experiences of and explanations for undergoing cesarean delivery.

International rates of operative delivery are consistently higher than the World Health Organization determined is appropriate. This suggests that factors other than clinical indications contribute to cesarean section. Data presented here are from interviews with 115 mothers on the postnatal ward of a hospital in Northeast England during February 2006 to March 2009 after the women underwent either unscheduled or scheduled cesarean childbirth. Using thematic content analysis, we found women's accounts of their experiences largely portrayed cesarean section as everything that they had wanted to
