Spinal cord injuries at the cervical spine level represent the most consequential of the related injuries at all levels of the spine. They can trigger permanent unilateral or bilateral damage with conspicuous disability. Regarding unstable injuries, the gold standard approach is open reduction and osteosynthesis, which can select between anterior and posterior surgical access. Each of the aforementioned approaches demonstrates both advantages and disadvantages; thus, it is up to the surgeon to determine the optimal option concerning the patient's safety. Diligent intraoperative control of anat

BACKGROUND: Although open reduction and internal fixation is the gold standard treatment for displaced midshaft clavicle fractures, recent studies have advocated for nonoperative management, citing high rates of reoperation associated with operative intervention. However, no studies have compared nonoperative management to open reduction and internal fixation with dual-plate fixation, which may be associated with lower rates of reoperation compared to single-plate fixation. The purpose of this study was to compare the complications and patient-reported outcomes of dual mini-fragment plate fixa

INTRODUCTION: Simultaneous contraction of the extensor carpi radialis longus (ECRL) with forced hyperflexion of the wrist can result in avulsion of the tendon and its bony attachment at its insertion at the dorsum of the base of the second metacarpal. This is a rare and often unreported fracture pattern.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a 31- year- old male who sustained a hyperflexion injury. He was managed surgically and had good post-operative outcomes. A literature search revealed 16 papers covering 18 cases of similar injuries. 12 were initially managed surgically and 6 were managed conserv

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Bone is one of the common sites of metastasis in lung cancer. Pathological fractures of the femur significantly reduce patients' quality of life and increase the risk of death. However, there is still no consensus on the optimal treatment of pathological femoral fractures. The authors' report provides a treatment method for a patient with pathological fracture of lung cancer with preoperative HIFU lesion ablation followed by combined intramedullary nail fixation.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old Chinese woman was hospitalized with severe pain in her right thigh. X

INTRODUCTION: Acetabular fracture subtypes are associated with varying rates of subsequent conversion total hip arthroplasty (THA) after open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) with transverse posterior wall (TPW) patterns having a higher risk for early conversion. Conversion THA is fraught with complications including increased rates of revision and periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). We aimed to determine if TPW pattern is associated with higher rates of readmissions and complications including PJI after conversion compared to other subtypes.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 1,938 ac

PURPOSE: Geriatric distal tibia and fibula fractures are typically treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or prolonged cast immobilisation. These methods predispose to wound complications and delayed weight-bearing. Percutaneous fixation can offer a stable construct allowing for early weight-bearing while minimising wound complications. This case series details the management and outcomes of patients over 65 with distal tibia and fibula fractures and poor soft tissue envelope treated with percutaneous fixation.
METHODS: A prospective observational study was conducted at two

BACKGROUND: The reverse obliquity fracture of the proximal part of the femur is a distinct fracture pattern that is mechanically different from most intertrochanteric fractures. The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the prevalence of these fractures and the results and complications of different types of internal fixation used in their treatment.
METHODS: Between 1988 and 1998, 2472 consecutive patients with a hip fracture were treated at our Level-One Trauma Center; 1035 of the fractures were classified as intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric. Clinical and radiographic rec

Dislocations of the cervicothoracic junction are frequently missed. Experience of this rare injury over 27 years at the Spinal Injuries Unit in Sheffield confirms that nearly two-thirds were not properly diagnosed on admission. Only two of the 14 dislocations studied were reduced by conservative methods and these were both associated with fractures of the posterior bony elements. Open reduction is necessary to replace pure dislocations at the C7-T1 level. It seems likely that the spinal cord lesion is not influenced by reduction of the displacement. The three patients who had an incomplete les

PURPOSE: Radial styloid fractures may occur in isolation or as part of complex intra-articular distal radius injuries. Fixation can be achieved using either a cannulated screw or a radial plate. This study aimed to compare these two fixation techniques with respect to surgical time, fracture union, and postoperative complications in patients with isolated radial styloid fractures, thereby eliminating confounding factors related to associated injuries.
METHODS: Between 2024 and 2025, a retrospective study was conducted involving 20 patients (mean age, 37.6 ± 6.9 years) with isolated radial sty

INTRODUCTION: Infected gap non-union is a serious complication seen in cases of diaphyseal fracture of forearm bones. It carries high morbidity in the form of severe functional impairment and poses a challenge to treat due to the complex anatomical relationship and articulations involved. Though there are multiple treatment options available, there are no guidelines for its management. Each case is unique and requires a customized, patient-specific approach.
CASE REPORT: A 43-year-old man sustained a road traffic accident with closed both bone forearm fracture 6 months ago and was treated els

Background and objectives: Treatment of a displaced or comminuted periprosthetic distal femur fracture is challenging, especially in patients with osteoporosis. In this case report, we shared our successful surgical experience of using a long intramedullary fibula bone graft in a plate fixation surgery for a periprosthetic distal femur fracture in an extremely elderly patient with osteoporosis. Case report: A 95-year-old woman with severe osteoporosis (bone mineral density level: -3.0) presented with right knee pain and deformity after a fall, and a right periprosthetic distal femur fracture w

INTRODUCTION: 'Vanishing Bone Disease' or Gorham's disease is a very rare form of primary idiopathic osteolysis with only around 200 cases being reported till date. We present in this case report a ten year follow-up of a patient who had progressive osteolysis of the right shoulder girdle and eventually involved the spine inspite of supplementary calcium and bisphosphonate therapy. We also report the utility of using an intra-medullary device is to attain acceptable union in case of pathological long bone fracture in Gorham's disease.
