An adult female rhesus monkey with a cephalic recording cylinder surgically implanted over a craniotomy site developed cloudy cylinder fluid and a white gelatinous plaque on the epidural capsule surface. Results of baseline hematologic, serum biochemical, and cerebrospinal fluid analysis and simian retrovirus panel were unremarkable. In the early 1900s, glottic insufficiency in patients with vocal cord paralysis was corrected by injecting paraffin intralaryngeally. Since then, injecting absorbable gelatin powder into the vocal cord has become an acceptable short-term solution for transient paralysis of a single vocal cord. Although relatively uncommon, this procedure has few complications and is an option for patients when vocal cord function is expected to return within one year.

To date, coil embolization has been reserved for occlusion of the small patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) because of potential dislodgement of the coils. We report a case of a larger, hemodynamically significant PDA in an adult which was successfully closed by two spring coils using a "crossed catheter" technique for coil delivery.

The mammographic, sonographic, and MR appearances of both normal and abnormal breast implants have been described. Breast implants are occasionally seen on chest CT scans obtained for other reasons; however, we know of no published reports on the CT findings in a series of patients with breast implants. We present a retrospective review of CT findings in 18 patients with 27 breast implants that illustrates the spectrum of findings that can be seen in asymptomatic patients.

The clinical and radiographic results of lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis were compared between interspinous block-assisted anterior interbody fusion (block-assist group, n = 16) and anterior interbody fusion with no use of the block (nonassist group, n = 17) with an average follow-up of 7 years (range 1 1/3-13 years). A review of 53 barium meal examinations in 39 patients with the prosthesis showed that in 43 examinations the prosthesis was below the diaphragm. Recent worldwide media speculation that silicone gel-filled breast implants may be linked to an increased incidence of breast and other cancers, and connective tissue disease (particularly systemic sclerosis) has caused concern to the medical profession and public alike. Until carefully controlled studies have been performed to prove the safety of these implants, the US Food and Drug Administration has restricted their use to research and breast reconstruction. Research has so far failed to prove a causative relationship between silicone implants and cancer or connective tissue disorders.

The aetiology of recurrent temporomandibular joint dislocation is numerous. A case is described of frequent dislocation which was finally treated using a carbon fibre sling. However this was removed 3 years later due to the presence of a radiolucency in the head of the condyle. Radiographic and photographic appearances of this carbon fibre induced radiolucency are shown.
