We report four cases of fatal mercury vapor inhalation, a rare occurrence. The mercury vapor was released at a private home, where one of the occupants was smelting silver from dental amalgam containing an unknown amount of mercury. Within 24 hours of the incident, all occupants began having shortness of breath necessitating hospital admission. A histological variant of plasma cells found in the granulomas of cat-scratch disease (CSD) lymphadenitis is reported. It has been suggested that bacillary (epithelioid) angiomatosis (BEA) is a manifestation of cat scratch disease (CSD). Because of clinical similarity between this condition and the verruga peruana phase of bartonellosis, we sought to further characterize this disease as well as its causative agent and to compare it to bartonellosis. A silver technique for nucleolar organizer regions (AgNOR) was applied to sections from 156 gastric biopsies and gastrectomy specimens. These included normal controls, normal gastric mucosa from carcinoma-bearing stomachs, intestinal metaplasia types I and III, dysplasia and carcinoma. A cream containing malic, benzoic and salicylic acid esters (Aserbine) was evaluated as a topical dressing for dermal burns. A survey of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteins from normal persons and patients with schizophrenia reveals differences between the two populations.
