Gas-phase infrared spectra of polyphosphazenes (phosphonitrilic halides trimer), (NPX2)3 where X=F, Cl and Br have been recorded. The molecules were generated for the first time by an on-line process using solid (NPCl2)3 as a precursor passed over heated sodium fluoride and potassium bromide at about 550 and 700 degrees C for (NPF2)3 and (NPBr2)3 production, respectively. S3, S6 and S10 are the most commonly used agents for tissue plastination. Surprisingly, their chemical structures are not known. We therefore decided to fully characterize these products by standard analytical methods: multinucleus magnetic resonance, infrared spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography. These experiments have shown that Biodur S10 is a polydimethylsiloxane with a molecular weight of 27,200 and silanol functionalities, Biodur S6 is tetraethoxysilane, and Biodur S3 is a mixture the main component of which is dibutyltindilaurate.

Recent studies of the synthesis, structures, spectroscopic properties, and reactions of a series of isolable metallylenes (R2E:, E = Si (1), Ge (2), and Sn (3); R2 = 1,1,4,4-tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)butane-1,4-diyl) are summarized. The unique capabilities of laser ablation in combination with inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-SFMS) were employed to reconstruct details of a homicide by thallium poisoning, which took place 38 years ago in Austria. The synthesis and characterization of several Cr(III) complexes of the constrained macrocyclic ligand 1,4-C(2)-cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazabicyclo[10.2.2]hexadecane is reported. The ligand appears to form only trans complexes, and the structure of trans-[Cr(1,4-C(2)-cyclam)Cl(2)]PF(6) is presented. The constraint imposed by the additional C(2) linkage distorts the bond angles significantly away from the ideal values of 90 and 180 degrees. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) seems to be an important mediator of inflammatory processes. Its role in the progression and detection of inflammatory periodontal disease has been increasingly recognized in recent years. In the present study AST activity was analyzed in normal healthy human dental pulps, in reversible pulpitis, and in irreversible pulpitis. Studies were carried out in the vicinity of a zinc smelter in southern Poland, 50 km northwest of Krakow, where the previous measurements with another bioindication method revealed huge thallium levels in the environment.
