Arthroscopic release of flexor hallucis longus tendon using modified posteromedial and posterolateral portals in the supine position.

BACKGROUND: The flexor hallucis longus (FHL) is a known site of pathological conditions. FHL stenosing tenosynovitis presents as posterior medial ankle pain or great toe discomfort and is often associated with a catching sensation of the great toe. There are a wide variety of open procedures for the treatment of FHL stenosing tenosynovitis. OBJECTIVE: Arthroscopic treatment may circumvent some of the complications associated with open surgical treatment of the hindfoot. METHODS: Arthroscopic surgery was completed in the supine position using modified posteromedial and posterolateral portals.

Distal biceps tendon repair: a cadaveric analysis of suture anchor and interference screw restoration of the anatomic footprint.

BACKGROUND: Distal biceps tendon repair with interference screw or double suture-anchor fixation are 2 successful techniques performed with either 1- or 2-incision approaches. No study has examined the accuracy and quality of the repaired tendon footprint with these devices and approaches. HYPOTHESIS: A 2-incision approach will allow a more anatomic repair of the distal biceps footprint compared with a 1-incision anterior approach. Fixation technique will affect insertional footprint location and footprint contact area. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: After randomization

Long-term results after operatively treated Achilles tendon rupture: fibrin glue versus suture.

UNLABELLED: The use of fibrin glue for repairing Achilles tendon ruptures was introduced in the 1980s. Although fibrin glue has been in regular use since that time, suturing remains the standard for surgical repair. Studies have indicated that, in the short term, fibrin glue is as effective as suturing. To date, there have been no long-term studies comparing the outcomes of these 2 techniques. This study compares the long-term results of surgical repair of Achilles tendon rupture with sutures versus fibrin glue. Forty-two patients who had undergone Achilles tendon repair with either suture or

Preventing the popeye deformity after release of the long head of the biceps tendon: an alternative technique and biomechanical evaluation.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this biomechanical study is to compare the pullout strength of a traditional biceps release with an alternative method of releasing the biceps in which a portion of the superior labrum is included in the release. METHODS: Five pairs of shoulders were arbitrarily separated into 2 groups: biceps tendons to be released "without labrum" or "with labrum." The biceps tendons of shoulders in the without-labrum group were released at the tendon-labrum junction. In the shoulders in the with-labrum group, the biceps was released with a portion of the superior labrum equal to twi…

Joint mice migration into the deep digital flexor tendon sheath in dogs. Clinical cases and anatomical study.

This study describes the appearance of 'joint mice' in the sheath of the deep digital flexor muscle tendon (DDFT) due to osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesions in the talocrural joint of 12 dogs. Surgical excision of all free fragments in the DDFT sheath was performed in five dogs, and their clinical progression was documented. The excision of free fragments from the DDFT sheath, but not arthro-tomy, proved clinically beneficial despite the presence of degenerative joint disease. The anatomical communication between the talocrural joint and the DDFT sheath and its dimensions are further illus

Luxation of the long digital extensor tendon as a complication to Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy. A presentation of four cases.

Cranial cruciate ligament disease in dogs is frequently treated with Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO). Herein we describe four cases of dogs presenting with sudden lameness in the operated leg one to 12 months post TPLO surgery. On examination, all of the dogs had a luxation of the long digital extensor tendon (LDE) resulting from the TPLO surgery. All of the dogs underwent revision surgeries. The LDE tendon was either secured in its normal position or transected, and a tenodesis was performed. The dogs recovered well after surgery and lameness was resolved in all four cases.
