Behavior of the Perme Scale and Correlation with Clinical Outcomes in the Postoperative of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.

BACKGROUND: There are limiting factors that influence the assessment of mobility after cardiac surgery. Therefore, the Perme intensive care unit mobility score scale becomes more appropriate because it analyzes physical and psychological limitations in the intensive care unit (ICU), taking into account extrinsic problems. OBJECTIVE: Describe the behavior of the Perme scale and its correlation with clinical outcomes in the postoperative stage of cardiac surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a prospective cohort study. The patients were evaluated in four moments, to analyze the perception of

Variation of corticospinal excitability during kinesthetic illusion induced by musculotendinous vibration.

Despite being studied for more than 50 years, the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying vibration (VIB)-induced kinesthetic illusions are still unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate how corticospinal excitability tested by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is modulated during VIB-induced illusions. Twenty healthy adults received vibration over wrist flexor muscles (80 Hz, 1 mm, 10 s). TMS was applied over the primary motor cortex representation of wrist extensors at 120% of resting motor threshold in four random conditions (10 trials/condition): baseline (without VIB), 1 s

Achieving a "step change" in the tuberculosis epidemic through comprehensive community-wide intervention: a model-based analysis.

BACKGROUND: Global progress towards reducing tuberculosis (TB) incidence and mortality has consistently lagged behind the World Health Organization targets leading to a perception that large reductions in TB burden cannot be achieved. However, several recent and historical trials suggest that intervention efforts that are comprehensive and intensive can have a substantial epidemiological impact. We aimed to quantify the potential epidemiological impact of an intensive but realistic, community-wide campaign utilizing existing tools and designed to achieve a "step change" in the TB burden. Measurement of change in health status with Rasch models.

BACKGROUND: The traditional approach to the measurement of change presents important drawbacks (no information at individual level, ordinal scores, variance of the measurement instrument across time points), which Rasch models overcome. The article aims to illustrate the features of the measurement of change with Rasch models. METHODS: To illustrate the measurement of change using Rasch models, the quantitative data of a longitudinal study of heart-surgery patients (N = 98) were used. The scale "Perception of Positive Change" was used as an example of measurement instrument. All patients unde

Dynamic transcriptomic profiling of Salix triandra under freezing stress identifies StWRKY31 as a positive regulator of cold tolerance.

Salix triandra is a fast-growing shrub willow native to temperate and cold regions, possessing remarkable freezing tolerance. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this natural cold hardiness remain largely unexplored. In this study, we performed a time-course transcriptomic analysis of S. triandra seedlings subjected to freezing stress at -4 °C. A total of 11,287 differentially expressed genes were identified and clustered into six distinct co-expression modules with dynamic temporal patterns, revealing a multi-phasic transcriptional response involving early stress perception, metaboli

Moving On is Hard to Do: Barriers and Facilitators to Graduation from Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery Programming.

Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery (ICMHR) Services provide interdisciplinary mental health care in the community for veterans with serious mental illness. While initially recommended as time-unlimited, studies have shown that transition from such services to a lower level of care, termed "graduation," can occur safely and with sustained improvement. This study aimed to understand the perceived barriers and facilitators to the transition process from ICMHR services to lower levels of care. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 15 ICMHR team members across the VA Co

The cumulative effect of positive school climate on the association with suicidal ideation among adolescents: A two-wave longitudinal study.

The relationship between a positive school climate and adolescent suicidal ideation has been well established. However, there is limited research focusing on the distinct dimensions of a positive school climate and their cumulative protective impact on suicidal ideation. This study aimed to investigate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between a positive school climate and adolescents' suicidal ideation using the cumulative protection model and to examine the potential moderation role of sex. A total of 11,960 junior school students engaged in two surveys conducted 6 months apa

Clinical efficacy of Guided Biofilm Therapy in the management of periodontal disease - a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Professional scaling and root debridement (SRD) is traditionally considered a gold standard in non-surgical periodontal therapy. However, Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) offers a possible alternative, utilizing a disclosing agent and air abrasive powder. Despite its potential benefits, the comparative clinical outcomes of GBT versus SRD remain underexplored. Hence, this systematic review was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Guided Biofilm Therapy compared to conventional methods in managing periodontal disease. METHODOLOGY: A systematic review was conducted following the PRI

An implementation "Field Trial" of DBT for adolescents with bipolar disorder: Training procedures and therapist outcomes.

BACKGROUND: The only efficacious psychosocial intervention for decreasing suicide attempts among adolescents with bipolar disorder (BP) is an adaptation of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Yet myriad factors, including clinician training, limit DBT uptake. To enhance dissemination, we systematically operationalized, implemented and studied procedures for training and supervising community clinicians to adherently deliver DBT for adolescents with BP. METHODS: This study was conducted at a University-affiliated clinic serving youth with BP. Guided by the Enhanced-Replicating Effective Progra

Temporal dynamics of numerosity judgments: Liberal responses across different reference numbers in early response onsets.

Approximate numerosity judgments allow humans and animals to quickly estimate quantities without verbal processing. This ability obeys Weber's law, which states that the discrimination between two quantities depends on their ratio rather than their absolute difference, making numerosity perception robust across varying contexts. Despite its robustness, temporal constraints significantly influence numerosity judgments. Shorter response times have been associated with numerical overestimation; however, the consistency of this effect across different reference quantities and varying temporal dema

Dynamic Scheduling and Resource Optimization Algorithm for Union Activities by Integrating Transformer and Reinforcement Learning.

To address the problem of reduced organizational efficiency caused by frequent resource allocation conflicts and delayed scheduling responses in managing trade union activities, this paper proposes a dynamic scheduling algorithm that integrates Transformer and PPO (Proximal Policy Optimization). In the specific implementation, a unified scheduling scenario modeling structure is first designed to convert activity, personnel, and resource states into tensor inputs, thereby achieving multidimensional constraint integration. Next, the Transformer multi-head attention mechanism is used to encode th
