Ocular Trauma is an important cause of monocular visual impairment and blindness in younger age groups. We examined the cases of hospitalized ocular trauma from 1st January, 1985 through 30th July, 1990 using hospital medical records. The study comprised 27 patients (28 eyes), 51.8% of whom were under 16. The male-female ratio was 2.8:1. Right eye was more commonly involved (66.6%) and one patient had bilateral ruptured globes. A retrospective study of 37 cases of multiple myeloma admitted from 1980 to 1987 to the University Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was carried out to analyse the biodata, clinical presentation, laboratory and radiological profiles. Hostility as measured by the Cook-Medley Hostility (HO) Scale on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory has been suggested as a risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD) and total mortality. We reviewed the records of 49 patients who had 55 episodes of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) from January 1984 to January 1987. Thirty-three patients had acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), with the risk groups being homosexual/bisexual practices (26), hemophilia (6), and blood transfusion (1). Fourteen patients had a history of malignancy or chemotherapy and two underwent organ transplantation. During a period of 25 years vaginal smears of 96.022 patients of the Gynaecological Clinic of the E.-M.-Arndt-Universität Greifswald were investigated bacterioscopically. As basis for the estimation of the vaginal biocoenosis and for the differentiation between eubiosis and dysbiosis as well as for its graduation (vaginal smear gradings) we used the Gram's staining technique. From 1962-1986 eubiosis increased from 18.8% to 37.9%, whereas the dysbiosis decreased from 81.2% to 62.1%. The Authors report their experience in 49 operations of radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy in the treatment of stage I b and stage II cervical cancer. They describe particularly the precocious and late urinary complications and the arrangements made for their prevention. From 1960 through 1983 sixty-four so-called pure mesenchymal homologous sarcomas of the uterus were observed at the Women's University Hospital Zürich. A review of the histological slides revealed that only 40 cases represented true sarcomas according to the contemporary diagnostic criteria. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of air pollution on acute respiratory illness (ARI). Levels of air pollutants were monitored on a daily 24-hour basis at two schools in Akron, Ohio. The children at each school completed daily diaries which served as a screening mechanism for detecting ARI. The prevalence of chronic and allergic rhinitis was studied in an unselected population sample consisting of 315 university students and 319 school children. History was taken by questionnaire, nasal appearance was examined by rhinoscopy, and a nasal smear was studied in all subjects.
