Vitamin C is one of the most important and necessary nutrient for human health, which has great potential as cosmeceutic, which protects health and the skin good condition. Thru the collagen biosynthesis stimulation it affects to the physiology of human skin, participating in the hydroxylation process of proline and lysine, and participates in tissue reconstruction while wound healing. Deficiency of vitamin C causes irregularities in the blood vessels functioning, epidermis and dermis. Is an effective antioxidant neutralizing free radicals, prevents inflammatory and carcinogenic processes. The

With the improvement of living quality, people pay more and more attention to vitamin supplements. The vitamins in the daily diet can meet the needs of the body. Whether additional vitamin supplementation is necessary still needs to be further explored. Many studies have reported that vitamin deficiency and excessive vitamin supplementation could lead to abnormal development in the body or increase the risk of diseases. Here, we summarize the abnormal levels of vitamins can cause the homeostasis imbalance of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis by affecting its development and function. I…

Calcium is a ubiquitous second messenger that is indispensable in regulating neurotransmission and memory formation. A precise intracellular calcium level is achieved through the concerted action of calcium channels, and calcium exerts its effect by binding to an array of calcium-binding proteins, including calmodulin (CAM), calcium-calmodulin complex-dependent protein kinase-II (CAMK-II), calbindin (CAL), and calcineurin (CAN). Calbindin orchestrates a plethora of signaling events that regulate synaptic transmission and depolarizing signals. Vitamin D, an endogenous fat-soluble metabolite, is

Positional vertigo manifests as a spinning sensation triggered by changes in head position relative to gravity. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is an inner ear disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of positional vertigo. The connection between vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency and the onset and recurrence of BPPV is established. This study aims to assess vitamin D as a recurring factor in BPPV and the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation in preventing its recurrence. A comprehensive literature review on the relationship between vitamin D and BPPV recurrence was conducted,

Aging is the result of several complex and multifactorial processes, where several agents contribute to an increased intrinsic vulnerability and susceptibility to age-related diseases. The hallmarks of aging are a set of biological mechanisms that are finely regulated and strictly interconnected, initiating or contributing to biological changes and anticipating several age-related diseases. The complex network of cellular and intercellular connections between the hallmarks might represent a possible target for the research of agents with pleiotropic effects. Vitamin D (VitD) is known to have a

INTRODUCTION: Scurvy is caused by vitamin C deficiency and manifests with a variety of symptoms including generalized fatigue, apathy, anemia, myalgias, easy bruising, and poor wound healing. It is generally thought of as a disease of the past, especially in developed countries. However, vitamin C deficiency still occurs, especially in patients with lack of access to fruits and vegetables. Other micronutrient deficiencies, including vitamin D deficiency, are also prevalent and can cause a multitude of signs and symptoms including osteomalacia, muscle weakness, and increased risk of many chroni

Vitamin D plays an essential role in bone and mineral metabolism. There is increased interest in understanding prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy as many studies report association of low vitamin D levels with obstetric complications and neonatal sequelae. There is a paucity of studies in Singapore evaluating levels of vitamin D levels during the first trimester of pregnancies. We aim to study the prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency in this population. Our study assessed vitamin D levels in these women. Vitamin D (Plasma 25(OH)D concentration) levels in multiracial women during

This case study features a 40-year-old male with Crohn's disease (CD) who was initially misdiagnosed with vasculitis but was later shown to have scurvy owing to vitamin C deficiency. The patient's diet was nearly exclusively made up of highly processed fast food, with no fresh fruits or vegetables. A mildly sensitive, violaceous rash on his lower legs, mild gingival hemorrhage and enlargement, and muscle soreness were among his symptoms. Anemia and undetectable vitamin C levels were discovered in laboratory studies. A skin sample revealed follicular hyperkeratosis, coiled hairs, and perifollic

BACKGROUND: Vitamin D deficiency is common in pregnancy, however, its effects has not been fully elucidated. Here, we conducted targeted metabolomics profiling to study the relationship.
METHODS: This study enrolled 111 pregnant women, including sufficient group (n = 9), inadequate group (n = 49) and deficient group (n = 53). Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS)-based targeted metabonomics were used to characterize metabolite profiles associated with vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy.
RESULTS: Many metabolites decreased in the inadequate and def

Vitamin D, obtained from diet or synthesized internally as cholecalciferol and ergocalciferol, influences bodily functions through its most active metabolite and the vitamin D receptor. Recent research has uncovered multiple roles for vitamin D in the central nervous system, impacting neural development and maturation, regulating the dopaminergic system, and controlling the synthesis of neural growth factors. This review thoroughly examines these connections and investigates the consequences of vitamin D deficiency in neurological disorders, particularly neurodegenerative diseases. The potenti

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency has been a growing concern in recent years. Vitamin D is important in many of the body's physiological systems, such as the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and immune functions. A deficiency of vitamin D in athletes may negatively impact both muscle functions and recovery and, thus, affect performance and increase the risk of injury. Many studies assessed the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in athletes; however, as of today, there are no official recommendations/protocols for screening vitamin D levels in athletes, and only a few studies we

Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) has been found among alcoholics. However, little is known about the effect of VDD on alcoholic liver disease and the molecular mechanisms remain unclear. The aim of the current study was to evaluate whether vitamin D was deficient among patients with alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD) and the effect of VDD on chronic alcoholic liver injury and possible molecular mechanisms in mice. Our results found that lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations in patients with AFLD. And further analysis found that 25(OH)D is a protective factor in patients with AFLD. Mic

Background Vitamin D is an important nutrient for skeletal and extra-skeletal health. Mothers and their neonates are frequently vitamin D deficient. This study aimed to find the association of neonatal vitamin D levels with maternal vitamin D levels at birth. Materials and methods This descriptive-observational study was done on mother-baby dyads at a tertiary center, which included mothers delivering a healthy baby at term gestation. In this study, we reviewed 102 mother-baby dyads. The maternal venous blood and cord blood samples were collected after delivery to determine vitamin D levels. D

Vitamin D hormone is an important regulator of various physiological functions, and its deficiency is characterized by an imbalance in parathyroid hormone and calcium homeostasis. The role of vitamin D in cardiovascular physiology is well demonstrated in animal and humanbased studies. In this context, hyperlipidemia, increased atherogenic plaques, cardiac inflammation, hypertension, myocarditis, myocardial infarction, and heart failure are some of the commonest known conditions connected with vitamin D deficiency. Supplementation of vitamin D is recommended to achieve normal serum vitamin D co
