Multi-omics integration identifies prognostic genes linked to adaptive immunity response and radiosensitivity in cervical cancer.

BACKGROUND: Radiotherapy is central to cervical cancer (CC) treatment, yet radiosensitivity remains a key determinant of prognosis. Although adaptive immune response (AIR) influences tumor progression, its role in modulating CC radiosensitivity and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unexplored. This study aims to elucidate the link between AIR and radiosensitivity, and to identify novel therapeutic targets. METHODS: Multi-omics data were integrated to identify AIR-related prognostic genes via differential expression, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), univar

INVESTIGATIONS INTO FERTILITY AND HATCHING SUCCESS OF HUMBOLDT PENGUIN (SPHENISCUS HUMBOLDTI) EGGS AT LONDON ZOO.

Establishment of breeding programs in zoo-housed Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti) colonies often takes several years and breeding success is generally perceived as poor. Husbandry and pathology records of eggs laid since the establishment of London Zoo's colony were retrospectively analyzed. Following a barren period from arrival of the first birds in May 2011, the first egg to hatch was laid in December 2013 and egg laying was consistent over the following 10 yr. A total of 823 eggs were laid by male-female pairs, so from 2018 onwards some newly-laid eggs were removed in order to limit

Exploring the Role of GGA2 in Cancer Progression: Pan-Cancer Bioinformatics and Experimental Validation in Prostate Cancer.

Cancer remains a significant challenge to global public health. Preliminary studies indicate that the protein Golgi-associated, Gamma-adaptin Ear Containing, ARF Binding Protein 2 (GGA2) may influence various cancers. However, the potential role of GGA2 in oncogenesis remains unknown. We utilized data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) projects to analyze GGA2 expression levels. Genetic variations and protein expression of GGA2 in human tissues were assessed using the cBioPortal. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) provided deeper insights into GGA2's

Parthenolide enhances imatinib activity in gastrointestinal stromal tumor models through stress-associated apoptosis.

Imatinib remains a mainstay of treatment for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), yet responses may be incomplete or short-lived. We examined whether parthenolide (PTL) enhances imatinib activity in GIST models and characterized the cellular changes associated with combined treatment. Public GIST transcriptomic datasets were analyzed as hypothesis-generating resources. GIST-T1 and GIST-882 cells were treated with PTL, imatinib, or their combination. Cell growth, migration, colony formation, apoptosis, reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial function and ultrastructure, ER-stress-associated

CD71 defines functionally active spermatogonial stem cells with enhanced transplantation potential in mouse testes.

Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are responsible for lifelong spermatogenesis in adult males; however, their scarcity and inherent heterogeneity, coupled with the lack of robust SSC-specific surface markers, continue to impede isolation and characterization. In the present study, we found CD71, which corresponds to transferrin receptor (TfR1; encoded by Tfrc), a candidate marker capable of enriching for SSC populations from mouse testes. The immunohistochemistry detected co-localization of CD71 with the undifferentiated spermatogonia marker glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor family re

Evaluation of late-season Varroa destructor treatments and their impact on amitraz resistant mite populations.

Varroa destructor mites are a leading cause of honey bee (Apis mellifera) colony losses worldwide. The acaracide amitraz has been among the most preferred Varroa treatments for more than a decade because of its high effectiveness and convenience of application. As a result, over reliance on amitraz has led to Varroa resistance to amitraz. Here, we evaluated U.S. registered Varroa treatments with differing active ingredients on Varroa infestation rates and their impact on amitraz resistant Varroa to identify alternative treatment options for commercial beekeepers just prior to winter, a critica

Amino Acid-Optimized Medium Improves Long-Term Growth, Conidiation, Stress Tolerance, and Biocontrol Performance of Esteya vermicola Against Pinewood Nematode.

Esteya vermicola is a nematophagous fungus with strong parasitic ability against the pinewood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) and shows great potential for the biological control of pine wilt disease. However, this fungus is highly sensitive to environmental stress factors and often exhibits early necrosis when cultured on conventional nutrient-rich media, limiting its large-scale application. In this study, we optimized the long-term cultivation and conidiation conditions of E. vermicola CBS115803 by supplementing minimal medium (MM) with amino acids, and evaluated its stress tolerance
