Mansonella ozzardi infections are common in the riverside communities along the Solimões, Negro and Purus Rivers in the state of Amazonas (AM). However, little is known about the presence of this parasite in communities located in regions bordering AM and the state of Acre. BACKGROUND: The current antibody detection tests for the diagnosis of gambiense human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) are based on native variant surface glycoproteins (VSGs) of Trypanosoma brucei (T.b.) gambiense. METHODS: Twenty-three sera of patients whom Taqman probe real time PCR is positive and 19 sera positive by the microscopic agglutination test (MAT) are studied for sensitivity. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the occurrence of Echinococcus granulosus in rural domestic dogs in farming areas around Yass, New South Wales, and Mansfield and Whitfield, Victoria.
DESIGN: Faeces were collected per-rectally from farm dogs voluntarily presented by their owners in four farming districts in New South Wales and two in Victoria.

In order to develop a rapid, simple immunodiagnostic assay for schistosomiasis, soluble egg antigen (SEA) of Schistosoma japonicum was conjugated with a blue colloidal dye (D-1) produced in China and used to detect antibodies in the sera of schistosomiasis patients.
