Traumatic dislocation of the radius at the elbow may be more common than previously appreciated. It may not be diagnosed, or may belatedly be diagnosed as a congenital dislocation of the radial head. Recurrent dislocation does not seem to have been previously reported in the literature.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess whether coronoid fragment size, expressed as coronoid height loss, is associated with functional outcomes in terrible triad injuries treated using a selective coronoid fixation algorithm based on intraoperative elbow stability. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included adult patients with terrible triad injuries treated between 2016 and 2022. All patients underwent preoperative computed tomography evaluation with standardized measurement of coronoid height loss and fracture classification using Mason and Regan-Morrey/O'Driscoll system…

Distal triceps tendon injuries are uncommon but clinically significant, typically occurring after heavy eccentric loading and resulting in loss of active elbow extension. Complete ruptures are traditionally treated with surgical repair using transosseous tunnels or suture anchors; however, high retear rates have been reported following traditional repair techniques. Bio-inductive collagen implants have demonstrated efficacy in augmenting rotator cuff repair by promoting neovascularization and tissue regeneration; however, their use in distal triceps tendon injuries has not been previously repo…

Upper arm muscles exhibit high muscle activity during distal upper limb motor tasks, which may contribute to musculoskeletal disorders of the upper arm. More specifically, elbow flexor muscle activity is elevated during upwards and leftwards wrist exertions, while downwards exertions produce high elbow extensor activity. While some evidence suggests that forearm supports may reduce the activity of these upper arm muscles, this has not been extensively investigated, nor is it clear how support might interact with wrist exertion direction. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to determine …

BACKGROUND: Hand-behind-back (HBB) motion is commonly used to assess shoulder internal rotation; however, it involves multiple joint movements, including scapulothoracic, glenohumeral, and elbow joint motions, thus complicating the interpretation of the HBB position. This study aimed to investigate 3-dimensional joint alignment during HBB motion of the bilateral shoulders in patients with frozen shoulder and to identify which joint motions primarily contribute to motion limitation.
METHODS: Seventeen patients with unilateral frozen shoulder underwent bilateral shoulder computed tomography sca…

Upper limb function is essential for performing activities of daily living (ADLs). Specifically for individuals with cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI), impairment of upper limb functions largely affect to reduce their ADLs. Conventional assessments for upper limb functions, for example, Simple Test for Evaluating Hand Function (STEF), is scored by the total time requirement of various types of upper limb movement and hand manipulation, and additional subjective evaluation would be complemented. While coordination of shoulder and elbow movements is a key function for ADLs in patients with CSCI…

BACKGROUND: Pushing is a typical workplace activity that may result in musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). A convenient method of assessing the risk of MSDs is to determine the association between the force applied and the subjective rating of force exertion.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the subjective rating of force exertion and the force applied to both a fixed and a movable handle. It also aimed to confirm that the participants could apply a higher one-handed push force at shoulder height than at elbow height.
METHODS: A one-handed pushing experiment w…

Traditionally, displaced fractures have been treated with open reduction although recent studies have demonstrated successful outcomes of closed reduction for similar injuries.
