FedEmoNet: Privacy-preserving federated learning with TCN-Transformer fusion for cross-corpus speech emotion recognition.

Federated learning offers a promising path toward privacy-preserving speech emotion recognition, yet existing approaches remain confined to … (1,488 samples) yields 68.15% ± 1.23% overall, with a clear arousal-dependent pattern: high-arousal emotions (angry, happy, sad) transfer at 71.9% versus 62.1% for low-arousal categories (neutral, disgust, fear). Ablation experiments confirm that PSO selection (+2.80%), Transformer blocks (+2.10%), and the FedProx protocol (+2.62%) each contribute signific …

Anxiety modulates voluntary attentional orienting to emotional gaze cues: Eye movements for pro- and anti-saccades.

The present study examined the effect of trait anxiety on voluntary orienting and inhibitory control responses triggered by averted gaze in emotional faces (fearful, happy, and neutral) in a mixed pro- and anti-saccade task. High- and low-anxious groups did not differ in terms of error rates, but the results showed that high-anxious individuals were slower to initiate a saccade in response to eye-gaze cues for fearful faces, irrespective of whether a pro- or anti-saccade was required. The present results support the Attentional Control Theory (ACT), which proposes that anxiety impairs processi

Linking childhood maltreatment to ICD-11 PTSD and CPTSD: Differential roles of insecure attachment and emotion dysregulation.

INTRODUCTION: Accumulating evidence suggests that childhood maltreatment (CM) increases risk for ICD-11 PTSD and CPTSD. Insecure attachment and emotion dysregulation (ED) may serve as key pathways linking CM to trauma-related symptoms. This study examined whether specific dimensions of insecure attachment (anxious, avoidant, disorganized) and ED mediate the links between overall CM and ICD-11 PTSD and CPTSD symptoms. METHOD: Between July and December 2022, 669 Taiwanese community-dwelling adults (53.5% female) meeting the ICD-11 trauma exposure criterion participated. Simple, parallel, and pa

Self-Efficacy, Emotional Intelligence, and Developmental Support Nursing Competency of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurses.

BACKGROUND: Although developmental care is vital for neurodevelopment, the integrated psychological and professional mechanisms driving performance remain underexplored. PURPOSE: This study identified key predictors of developmental care performance among Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses by examining the synergistic roles of self-efficacy, emotional intelligence, and developmental support nursing competency. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional design was conducted with 137 NICU nurses from 6 hospitals in South Korea. Data from self-administered questionnaires were analyzed using

Emotion Regulation Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder: Results of a Stage II Randomized Clinical Efficacy Trial.

BACKGROUND: Despite strong links between emotion regulation (ER) difficulties and problem drinking, few studies have directly addressed whether interventions that target ER positively impact drinking outcomes. In a prior Stage 1a/1b behavioral therapies development study, we developed an Emotion Regulation Treatment (ERT) for alcohol use disorder (AUD) that included strategies addressing prolonged direct experiencing of emotion, mindfulness, and coping and distress tolerance. Results demonstrated the feasibility and initial efficacy of ERT as a supplement to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

Emotional intelligence and perspective-taking as drivers of creativity among mid-level managers in commercial banks in Ecuador.

This study aims to evaluate the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and creative performance (CP) in the workplace and their indirect association through perspective-taking (PT). The study applied surveys to 224 mid-level managers from large private banks in Ecuador. The research hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate a significant positive relationship between EI and CP. Furthermore, PT serves as a mediator in that relationship, underscoring the importance of soft skills in fostering workplace creativity. Ad

Promoting resilience with social-emotional learning: Young adult follow-up of a preschool randomized-controlled trial.

Young adults are experiencing emotional distress at unprecedented levels, with rates of loneliness, social isolation, and poor mental health especially high among those marginalized by economic hardship. Individuals who experience exposure to adverse experiences during childhood face heightened vulnerability, indicating a need to enhance early developmental supports. Public investment in early childhood education provides a unique opportunity to strengthen social-emotional supports for children at socioeconomic risk. This longitudinal study evaluated the impact of enriching Head Start classroo

Understanding work ability in breast cancer survivors: A mediational approach to the roles of perceived emotional intelligence and depression.

BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of breast cancer entails multidimensional challenges regarding its impact on patients' physical, psychosocial, and emotional health. Scientific literature shows that breast cancer survivors face significant difficulties in returning to work, which is closely linked to impaired work ability. Moreover, depression -which affects a high percentage of these women- is associated with a reduced perception of their capacity to perform work-related tasks. Emotional intelligence has been identified as a key factor that may mitigate or exacerbate these difficulties.

Exploring radiography students' preparedness and emotional responses to trauma radiography case exposure during clinical placements.

INTRODUCTION: Trauma radiography is a core component of emergency departments, requiring radiographers to perform examinations under time pressure while managing patient instability and emotional distress. During clinical placements, undergraduate diagnostic radiography students are exposed to high-acuity environments while still developing technical competence, clinical judgement, and emotional readiness. Although undergraduate programmes provide theoretical preparation in trauma radiography, limited literature exists on how students perceive preparedness and how they experience the emotional

The impact of e-cigarette use on cognitive function, emotional intelligence, and dementia risk in adolescents and young adults.

The increasing prevalence of e-cigarette use among adolescents and young adults has raised concerns about its potential association with cognitive and behavioral functions. While nicotine exposure is known to affect brain development, its associations with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms, emotional intelligence (EQ), and dementia risk remain unclear. This study primarily examined the association between e-cigarette use and cognitive impairment assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Secondary analyses explored associations with ADHD symptom tendencies and

Divergent modes of episodic organization underlie whether emotional learning enhances memory across event boundaries.

Episodic memory organizes continuous experience into discrete events, often limiting integration across temporal gaps. Emotionally salient experiences, such as learning about threats, may nevertheless enhance memory for motivationally relevant information across nominal event boundaries. Yet evidence for such cross-boundary modulation is mixed, suggesting that emotional learning may not exert a uniform effect on episodic memory across individuals. Here, we examined whether this heterogeneity reflects a mixture of divergent tendencies in how individuals structure their experience in memory - by

Impact of adverse postnatal environment on emotional regulation and neuroimmune function in adolescent rats prenatally exposed to alcohol.

Individuals with prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) are at increased risk for experiencing early-life adversity (ELA), which may contribute to their heightened vulnerability to mental health problems. Using rat models, we examined the independent and interactive effects of PAE (liquid ethanol diet) and ELA (limited bedding) on emotional regulation, specifically anxiety- and depressive-like behaviors, and assessed neuroimmune alterations in the amygdala and hypothalamus during early and late adolescence as a potential underlying mechanism. Our results indicate that PAE induced anxiety-like behavio

Strength in Numbers, Power in Subjectivity: Scalable Modeling of Individual Annotators for Emotion Recognition Within and Across Corpora.

Emotion expression and perception are nuanced, complex, and highly subjective processes. As a result, when multiple annotators label emotional data, the resulting labels generally contain high degrees of variability. This variability is often addressed by averaging annotator labels into a single averaged or majority-voted ground-truth label. However, an averaged label may mask variation among the perception of individuals, which is at the core of subjective perception. This is an issue because inter-annotator variability contains valuable information about both the sample being evaluated and t

Impact of spike frequency and location on cognitive and emotional development in children with genetic generalized and self-limited epilepsy.

OBJECTIVE: Genetic generalized epilepsy (GGE) and self-limited focal epilepsy (SeLFE) are associated with normal intelligence, but evidence shows patients may face increased cognitive and emotional difficulties compared with the general population. This study aimed to investigate the impact of inter-ictal discharges (IEDs) on cognitive and emotional functioning in children with epilepsy. METHODS: Participants included 113 children (57.5% female), aged 8 to 18, who completed the NIH Toolbox cognitive battery assessing executive function, attention, episodic memory, language, and processing spe

Long-term trajectories of social adjustment and emotional/behavioral problems in pediatric post-acute COVID-19.

COVID-19 has been associated with adverse mental health outcomes in children. However, evidence regarding the long-term trajectories of post-acute symptoms remains limited. We examined long-term emotional and behavioral trajectories in children following COVID-19 infection. Eighty-four children (aged 6-16) with a confirmed COVID-19 were initially enrolled. Of these, 69 completed the three-year follow-up assessment and were included in the present analyses. Parents completed assessments approximately three months post-infection, retrospectively rating their child's behavior preceding infection
