Crystallographic phase engineering of MnO2 for efficient peracetic acid activation: Unraveling the critical role of surface manganese oxidation state.

This study systematically investigates the influence of MnO2 crystallographic phase on the activation efficiency of peracetic acid (PAA). Firstly, α-, β-, γ-, and δ-MnO2 were synthesized through tailored methods. The oxidative activity of these catalysts was evaluated based on the degradation kinetics of naproxen (NAP), revealing the following catalytic activity order: α-MnO2 > δ-MnO2 > γ-MnO2 > β-MnO2. Further analysis revealed that NAP oxidation in the different crystallographic phases MnO2/PAA process mainly depends on RO• and 1O2. Comprehensive characterization and density functional theor

Engineering half-valley-metal and ferrovalley phases with a robust anomalous valley Hall effect in a ScI2/InSe heterostructure.

Ferrovalley van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) have drawn growing attention owing to their special spin-valley coupling and potential applications in next-generation electronic devices. Here, the valley polarization and ferromagnetism of ScI2/InSe vdWH are studied via first-principles methods, with particular emphasis on the tunability provided by electric field and vertical strain. Our results demonstrate that the thermally and dynamically stable ScI2/InSe vdWH exhibits intrinsic ferromagnetic half-metallicity with unconventional V-type band alignment. Including spin-orbit coupling lifts

Interface engineering and strain-tuned half-metallicity, magnetic anisotropy and spin transport in VI3-based van der Waals heterostructures.

Two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) magnetic heterostructures provide a versatile platform for engineering spin-dependent phenomena. Despite growing interest in intrinsic 2D magnets, VI3-based vdW heterostructures remain largely unexplored. Using first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that interlayer coupling in VI3-based heterostructures induces intrinsic half-metallicity, enhances magnetic anisotropy, and enables strain-tunable spin transport. Among the considered stacking configurations, AB-stacked VI3/CrGeTe3 is the most stable, whereas AB-stacked VI3/FeI3 is the least stable. Phono…

Angular and Spectral Engineering of Red Organic Light-Emitting Diodes via Cavity-Induced Emission for Photobiomodulation-Related Cellular Responses.

Photobiomodulation using red and near-infrared light has emerged as a promising strategy for promoting skin regeneration because of its ability to stimulate mitochondrial activity and enhance cellular proliferation. However, the optical characteristics of the light source, including angular emission and spectral bandwidth, remain underexplored in terms of their influence on biological outcomes. Here, we demonstrate that emission-engineered red organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) can directly regulate cellular responses by tailoring both angular distribution and spectral properties. Flexible

Reactivity enhancement of municipal solid waste gasification slag as a low-carbon binder via mechanical and alkaline activation engineering.

As cement production is a dominant carbon emission source in construction industry, the development of alternative binders to partially or fully replace ordinary Portland cement (OPC) has been widely motivated. Municipal solid waste gasification slag (MSWGS), generated from a high-temperature slagging gasifier of waste treatment, contains the same key elements as ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS), a common alkali-activated materials (AAMs) binder. However, differences in elemental content, particle size distribution, and mineral phases may affect its reactivity limiting its use as AA

Advances in single-cell surface engineering: nano-coating and core-shell strategies for probiotics delivery in inflammatory bowel disease.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic intestinal inflammatory disorder with a complex pathogenesis involving oxidative stress, intestinal barrier damage, gut microbiota dysbiosis, and immune imbalance. Conventional therapies merely alleviate symptoms but fail to achieve a radical cure, and long-term use is associated with adverse reaction and drug resistance. Probiotics represent a potential therapeutic strategy for IBD by regulating gut microecology, repairing the intestinal barrier, and modulating mucosal immunity, yet their clinical efficacy is severely limited by poor gastrointesti

Polymeric Biomaterials for the Delivery of Stem Cell-Derived Exosomes in Inflammatory Skin Diseases: Engineering Strategies and Synergistic Effects.

Skin tissue engineering has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for severe wounds and inflammatory skin diseases. Stem cell-derived exosomes (SC-Exos) have recently gained increasing attention as cell-free therapeutic agents with regenerative and immunomodulatory potential, offering possible advantages over direct stem cell transplantation. To fully realize their therapeutic potential, however, efficient delivery platforms are needed to enhance local retention, preserve vesicle integrity, and support sustained release within the diseased skin microenvironment. In this review, we discus…

Engineering a leakage-resistant CHA-CRISPR/Cas12a biosensor via cis-cleavage-triggered split activator assembly for ultrasensitive miRNA detection.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as important biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis, yet their accurate detection remains challenging due to low abundance, short sequences, and sequence homology. Herein, we report a novel biosensing platform based on a cascade cis-cleavage-triggered split activator assembly strategy by integrating catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) with dual CRISPR/Cas12a amplification for ultrasensitive and selective miRNA detection. In contrast to conventional CHA-CRISPR assays that directly couple CHA products with Cas12a activation and suffer from crRNA-induced leakag

Stoichiometric MACl/PbCl2 Additive Engineering for Improved Reproducibility and Carrier Lifetime in FA/Cs Mixed-Halide Perovskite Solar Cells.

Chloride-based additive engineering has become nearly indispensable in the development of high-efficiency perovskite solar cells (PSCs), with the majority of record-setting devices achieving power conversion efficiencies (PCE) exceeding 25% using methylammonium chloride (MACl) as a processing additive. However, the extreme process sensitivity and consequent irreproducibility associated with MACl incorporation are rarely addressed. Here, we systematically investigate MACl-processed FA0.9Cs0.1Pb-(I0.9Br0.1)3 films and show that MACl-assisted processing can act as a double-edged strategy. Under n…

Dual-active-site engineering in cobalt-porphyrin porous hyper-crosslinked polymers enables synergistic catalysis for CO2 cycloaddition with epoxides.

Two cobalt-porphyrin porous hyper-crosslinked polymers, functionalized with halogen-free imidazole or halogenated imidazolium groups, were engineered with cooperative dual active sites. Both materials effectively catalyze the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides under mild conditions, with the halogenated variant exhibiting significantly enhanced catalytic performance.

Proximal-distal coordination engineering of iron single-atom nanozyme for synergistic multi-enzymatic-photothermal control of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The escalating threat of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in environmental and clinical settings poses a serious risk to public health and ecosystem safety. Conventional nanozyme designs often struggle to balance catalytic activity and substrate adsorption, limiting their efficacy in mitigating such hazards. Herein, we report a proximal-distal coordination engineering strategy that achieves synergistic enhancement through first-sphere symmetry breaking (S doping) and second-sphere electronic regulation (-OH incorporation). This dual modification elevates peroxidase-like activity to 5.5 times that…

Adaptive AI-generated feedback in higher education: exploring associations with cognitive flexibility and academic psychological safety among engineering students.

BACKGROUND: Adaptive AI-generated feedback (AIF) is increasingly integrated into higher education; however, its cognitive and psychological implications remain insufficiently understood, particularly in engineering education. Grounded in feedback intervention theory and emotion regulation theory, this study developed and tested an integrative model examining the perceived relationships between AIF, cognitive flexibility (CF), and academic psychological safety (APS), including mediating and moderating patterns. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 471 engineering students. Dat…

Trifluoromethylthio Engineering Enables a Balanced Electrostatic Potential for Organic Solar Cells with over 20% Efficiency and Low Energy Loss.

Fluorination is widely used to regulate the molecular electrostatic potential (ESP) and packing of nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) in organic solar cells (OSCs). Current strategies mainly involve direct fluorination or trifluoromethylation, but high-performance NFAs still suffer from large exciton binding energy (Eb) and nonradiative energy loss (ΔE3). Herein, we introduce a novel fluorinated group, trifluoromethylthio (SCF3), into the quinoxaline core of an A-DA'D-A-type NFA, combined with alkyl side-chain engineering, to construct three new acceptors, ZY-SCF3-EH, ZY-SCF3-BO, and ZY-SCF3-HD. Controlling Molecular Packing via Side-Chain Engineering of BDTT-Based Guest Donors for High-Performance Ternary Organic Solar Cells.

Applying the ternary bulk heterojunction (BHJ) strategy in organic solar cells (OSCs) has emerged as an effective approach to enhance photovoltaic performance. In this work, two newly designed wide-bandgap polymer donors, BDT-TS-6 and BDT-TS-20, were developed by incorporating a diester-functionalized terephthalate unit into a common BDTT-based conjugated backbone and introducing linear C6 or branched C20 ester substituents on the terephthalate-derived units. The short linear C6 and bulky long-branched C20 side chains were selected to provide contrasting steric and molecular packing environmen
