Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is a unique lipoprotein, elevated serum levels of which are independently associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is often associated with high serum cholesterol, itself a risk factor for CHD. A comparative study was conducted for detecting antibody levels of bancroftian microfilaremia cases by using three serologic tests, IFAT, ELISA and dot-ELISA. A total of 102 serum specimens were collected from bancroftian microfilaremia cases. This work was designed to study the relation between cellular and humoral immune responses in experimentally infected albino rats with T. spiralis larvae over a period of four weeks. Based on the reactivities of monoclonal antibodies, we previously reported that 25 Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus strains fell into five antigenic groups: Nakayama, Beijing-1, Kamiyama, 691004 and Muar. PROBLEM: The prevalence of anti-sperm antibodies (ASAs) in the general population is 0 to 2%; the prevalence in infertile men is much higher at 7 to 26%. We have studied 44 patients with Behçet's Disease (BD) to look for any correlation of arterial and venous thrombosis or central nervous system (CNS) manifestations with anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACLA). Twenty patients were positive for ACLA by MELISA method. Ten patients had IgG antibody, four had IgM and six had both IgG and IgM. Of these patients, 11 had a history of vascular thrombosis and thrombophlebitis and nine had CNS manifestations. The association of ACLA with vascular thrombosis or CNS manifestation of Behçet's disease was statistically not significant.

Aiming at demonstrating a decrease of acquired immunity after chemotherapeutic cure, a group of mice was infected with 25 Schistosoma mansoni cercariae (LE strain). A part of these animals was treated with 400 mg/kg oxamniquine, at 120 days after infection. An antigenic protein in cystic fluid of Taenia solium metacestodes (CF) of 150 kDa was measured by antibody-sandwich ELISA in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of neurocysticercosis patients. Two cases of suspected Lyme borreliosis in lambs are described. The clinical signs observed resemble those described for Lyme borreliosis in dogs and horses.
