BACKGROUND: TTV has been detected in almost every human tissue type or body fluid reaching near 100% prevalence. Several studies report mother-to-child postnatal transmission of TTV in infancy but the risk of transplacental transmission of TTV is still unclear.
METHODS: The blood and plasma collected postpartum from 100 mother-child pairs were analyzed using TTV-specific qPCR. Samples were collected from the peripheral vein of the mother and the umbilical cord.

INTRODUCTION: Healthcare-associated conjunctivitis (HAC) can lead to serious sequelae including blindness. We conducted a one-year prospective study to determine the epidemiology of neonatal HAC at a tertiary-care hospital in India.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the safety of and immune response to the influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 vaccine in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

Concentration dependent differences in acute and long-term effects of a 48 h exposure to mechanically or chemically dispersed crude oil were assessed on juvenile lumpsucker (Cyclopterus lumpus). Acute or post-exposure mortality was only observed at oil concentrations representing higher concentrations than reported after real oil spills. Acute mortality was more apparent in chemically than mechanically dispersed oil treatments whereas comparable EC50s were observed for narcosis. BACKGROUND: Early onset idiopathic generalised dystonia is a progressive and profoundly disabling condition. Medical treatment may ameliorate symptoms. However, many children have profound, intractable disability including the loss of ambulation and speech, and difficulties with feeding. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Bezoars occur most commonly in patients with impaired gastrointestinal motility or a history of gastric surgery. Noonan syndrome is associated with gastrointestinal dysfunction and feeding difficulties in children. We report the case of a 64-year-old man with Noonan syndrome who was admitted to the hospital with a small bowel obstruction. An emergency laparotomy was performed and the patient was found to have a phytobezoar of the ileum that had caused edema of the intestinal wall resulting in the obstruction.
